As part of our continued commitment to responsible business practices, operational excellence and sustainable growth, we are seeking an experienced and driven Sustainability & Compliance Manager to lead and strengthen our sustainability, quality and compliance framework across the Group.
Position Overview
The Sustainability & Compliance Manager will be responsible for driving the Group's sustainability, quality management and compliance agenda, ensuring that our business practices meet applicable regulatory requirements, international standards, customer expectations and responsible business principles.
The role will place strong emphasis on social compliance and sustainability frameworks, including SEDEX/SMETA and EcoVadis, as well as the development, implementation and continuous improvement of an effective Integrated Management System (IMS) covering standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
The candidate will also lead initiatives relating to Greenhouse Gas (GHG), emissions monitoring and reduction, sustainability performance and continuous improvement.
The position will also oversee the Group's Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) aspects. However, SHE will be a supporting responsibility, with the primary focus of the role being Quality, Sustainability and Compliance.
The role requires close collaboration with management and various functions across the Group, as well as engagement with customers, auditors, certification bodies, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Sustainability, ESG & Social Compliance
- Lead the Group's sustainability and ESG initiatives, policies, objectives and improvement programs.
- Manage and coordinate EcoVadis and SEDEX/SMETA assessments, including gap assessments, documentation, audits and corrective actions.
- Monitor social compliance, responsible sourcing, human rights and other relevant sustainability requirements.
- Support customer sustainability assessments, questionnaires and ESG-related requirements.
- Establish and monitor sustainability KPIs, targets and improvement plans.
- GHG & Environmental Sustainability
- Lead the Group's GHG emissions management, including data collection, calculation, monitoring and reporting.
- Monitor Scope 1, Scope 2 and, where applicable, Scope 3 emissions.
- Identify and drive initiatives to reduce GHG emissions, improve energy efficiency and enhance environmental performance.
- Ensure sustainability and GHG data is accurate, traceable and available for internal, customer and external reporting.
- Quality & Integrated Management System
- Lead the development, implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the Group's Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Coordinate internal, external, customer and certification audits.
- Manage non-conformities, corrective actions, preventive actions and continual improvement initiatives.
- Maintain effective IMS documentation, records, procedures and processes.
- Monitor quality and compliance KPIs and report performance to senior management.
- Compliance & Governance
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and compliance requirements relating to quality, sustainability, social compliance, environmental and occupational safety matters.
- Monitor applicable legislation, international standards, customer requirements and industry developments.
- Conduct compliance reviews, gap assessments and risk assessments and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, certification bodies, customers, auditors and other external stakeholders as required.
- Prepare management reports, dashboards and presentations on quality, sustainability and compliance performance.
- Provide oversight and direction on the Group's Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) programs.
- Work closely with relevant Safety & Health Officers, OSH Coordinators, competent persons and site management on SHE matters.
- Monitor key SHE performance, risk assessments, incidents and corrective actions.
- Ensure SHE requirements are appropriately incorporated into the Integrated Management System.
- Support initiatives to strengthen environmental performance and workplace safety culture.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in Quality, Sustainability, Compliance, ESG, Integrated Management Systems or a related field, preferably within a manufacturing, specialty chemicals, ingredients, polymers or industrial environment.
- Strong practical knowledge and experience in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and Integrated Management Systems.
- Demonstrated experience in SEDEX/SMETA and EcoVadis assessments, audits, gap assessments and corrective action management.
- Strong understanding of social compliance, ESG, sustainability, human rights, responsible sourcing and supply-chain sustainability requirements.
- Practical experience in GHG, carbon emissions data management and Scope 1, Scope 2 and/or Scope 3 emissions will be highly advantageous.
- Good knowledge of Malaysian regulatory requirements relating to quality, environmental, occupational safety and other relevant compliance matters.
- Experience in managing internal audits, external audits, customer audits and ISO certification audits.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, perform gap assessments and translate findings into practical improvement programs.
- Proven ability to work independently while effectively influencing and collaborating with stakeholders across different functions and locations.
- Relevant professional certifications in Quality, Sustainability/ESG, Environmental Management or Occupational Safety & Health will be an added advantage.
