We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Health, Safety, and Sustainability Officer to join our palm oil company based overseas (Papua New Guinea). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental sustainability across our operations. This position requires a strong commitment to upholding ethical practices and promoting responsible and sustainable business operations within the palm oil industry.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to minimize occupational risks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create a safety-conscious culture by organizing safety training, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
- Formulate and execute strategies to enhance the company's environmental sustainability efforts, aligning with global sustainability goals and industry best practices.
- Monitor environmental performance indicators, track progress, and implement initiatives to minimize the company's ecological footprint.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits and proactively engage with regulatory bodies as necessary.
- Identify opportunities for resource conservation, waste reduction, and energy efficiency improvements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor company's Sustainability (RSPO, MSPO, ISPO, ISCC) policies and strategies and maintain the integrity of the various certification systems.
- Ensure company and all the Operating Centres (OCs) are in compliance with all state and federal Environmental, Sustainability, RSPO, MSPO, ISPO, ISCC statutes and regulations by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements.
- Build strong relationships with local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and industry associations to foster a positive reputation and open lines of communication.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address concerns, resolve conflicts, and develop partnerships that contribute to sustainable development goals.
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports on health, safety, and sustainability performance, presenting findings to senior management.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and data related to health, safety, and sustainability activities, ensuring accessibility and compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential operational, health, safety, and environmental risks. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or related discipline from recognised university/college.
- OSH Coordinator competency certificate from DOSH is an added advantage.
- Good knowledge in RSPO, MSPO, ISPO and ISCC and prior experience in Oil Palm Plantation Industry.
- Able to speak and write fluently in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
