Job summary

AFRY in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a qualified Secondary Engineer – Substations (Protection, Control & SCADA) to join our Southeast Asia T&D team and be based in Malaysia. The role covers protection philosophies, relay settings, SCADA and SAS design, IEC 61850 engineering, RTU/gateway systems, and coordination with clients and contractors.

Travel to project sites throughout Malaysia and SE Asia is expected as part of project delivery and liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, on‑time

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (required).
• Minimum 5–10 years in secondary engineering for high‑voltage substations.
• Experience with 132 kV–500 kV AIS/GIS projects and protection/control systems.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, RTU/gateway systems, and SAS.
• Willingness to travel within Malaysia and SE Asia.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection philosophies, coordination concepts, relay settings and tripping schemes.
• Prepare and review substation control philosophies, bay control architecture, and FDS.
• Design and review SCADA and SAS, including IEC 61850 implementation and I/O schedules.
• Prepare SLDs, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and protection reports.
• Design AC/DC auxiliary systems and telecom requirements.
• Support tendering, FAT/SAT, commissioning and technical troubleshooting.
