Job summary

Hitachi Energy Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking a Substation Automation Engineer / Senior Engineer to join our Grid Automation team. You will engineer SAS, SCADA, RTU, and electrical telecommunications solutions and contribute to the successful delivery of automation projects, coordinating with managers, customers, and multidisciplinary teams.

You will develop software, configurations, and panel designs, prepare documentation, and participate in FAT and site testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Automation/Control Engineering.
• Experience with SAS, SCADA, RTU or related automation solutions.
• Knowledge of power systems, substations, MV/HV switchgear.
• Familiarity with PLCs, gateways, protocols, and automation architectures.
• Experience using AutoCAD or E3.
• Good communication and English fluency.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and implement SAS, SCADA, RTU, and electrical telecommunications solutions.

• Prepare customer approval documents and workshop manufacturing documentation.
• Participate in factory testing, FAT, site testing, and commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure delivery within scope, schedule, and quality.
• Support technical submissions and coordination with customers, consultants, authorities, and internal stakeholders.
• Work with sales, project management, and supply chain during project execution.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during engineering, testing, and commissioning.
• Apply cybersecurity considerations in automation system design and implementation.
• Drive continuous improvement through best practices and lessons learned.

This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced Substation Automation Systems (SAS), SCADA, RTU, and electrical telecommunications solutions that support the energy transition. You will play a key role in the engineering, testing, commissioning, and successful delivery of automation projects while working closely with project managers, customers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Engineer and implement Substation Automation Systems (SAS), SCADA, RTU, and electrical telecommunications solutions

• Participate in factory testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site testing, and commissioning activities
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful project delivery within scope, schedule, and quality requirements
• Support technical submissions and coordination with customers, consultants, authorities, and internal stakeholders
• Work closely with sales, project management, and supply chain teams throughout project execution
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during engineering, testing, and commissioning phases
• Apply cybersecurity considerations in automation system design and implementation
• Drive continuous improvement through adoption of best practices and lessons learned

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field
• Experience in Substation Automation Systems, SCADA, RTU, or related automation solutions
• Knowledge of power systems, substations, and MV/HV switchgear applications
• Familiarity with PLCs, gateways, communication protocols, and automation architectures
• Experience using AutoCAD, E3, or equivalent engineering design tools
• Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles is beneficial
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers and cross-functional teams
• Fluency in written and spoken English
