Job summary

GMRecruitment Sdn Bhd is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design of high-voltage substations (275kV–11kV) and oversee protection, SCADA and grid interconnection studies. You will coordinate with EPC teams, review layouts, and ensure compliance with Grid Code and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a PE with Practising Certificate, 10+ years of HV/EHV experience, and proficiency in ETAP/SKM/CYME/AutoCAD, with willingness to travel and relocate as required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) with Practising Certificate.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in HV/EHV substation design, utility, EPC or engineering consultancy.
• Strong experience in 275kV / 132kV / 115kV / 33kV / 11kV systems.
• Strong knowledge of grid interconnection, protection & control, SCADA and IEC 61850.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, CYME and AutoCAD.
• Experience in hyperscale data centres, semiconductor/microelectronics or other critical infrastructure is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Grid Code and utility requirements.
• Proficient in English and Mandarin, with the ability to communicate effectively with regional stakeholders.
• Willing to travel and relocate based on project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, concept and detailed design of 275kV, 132kV, 115kV, 33kV and 11kV substations.
• Review SLDs, protection & control philosophies, equipment ratings and substation layouts.
• Lead grid connection studies and utility coordination.
• Review electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, earthing and lightning protection.
• Oversee SCADA and IEC 61850 systems and interfaces with EPMS/BMS and utility systems.
• Provide technical oversight during EPC tendering, construction, FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning and energization.
• Ensure designs meet reliability, safety, regulatory, constructability and cost requirements.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors and regional stakeholders.
• Support future-ready power solutions including BESS, microgrids and renewable energy integration.
