Job summary

Renesas Electronics in Penang is seeking a Staff Product & Test Engineer to lead NPI, transfer, and high‑volume manufacturing of automotive semiconductor products. You will drive cross‑functional readiness, resolve yield and test issues, and optimize performance to ensure reliable customer delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 8 years in semiconductor test manufacturing or test engineering in high-volume settings.
  • Hands-on experience with ATE platforms (Advantest V93000, Teradyne J750, UltraFlex).
  • Strong understanding of wafer sort, final test, and backend processes.
  • Experience with failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Excellent data analytics and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead introduction and qualification of new automotive semiconductor products through ramp-up.
  • Provide ownership and support for wafer sort and final test operations and yield monitoring.
  • Drive profitability and OEE improvements through cost-saving and automation projects.
  • Own test engineering activities: test programs, release management, and quality audits.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, and global teams.
  • Analyze production/test data to identify opportunities and implement corrective actions.

Job description

The Staff Product & Test Engineer provides technical leadership for the new product introduction, transfer, and high-volume manufacturing of automotive semiconductor products. This role leads cross-functional efforts to establish production readiness, sustain wafer and final test operations, resolve complex yield and quality issues, and optimize product and test performance. The engineer is expected to drive data-based improvements in yield, OEE, retest, cycle time, equipment utilization, and manufacturing cost, while ensuring test program robustness, product compliance, and reliable customer delivery. The position also serves as a key technical interface among Product Groups, manufacturing operations, quality functions, and global engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the introduction and qualification of new automotive semiconductor products from Product Group development through successful ramp-up into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Provide technical ownership and engineering support for wafer sort and final test operations, including yield monitoring, failure analysis, root cause investigation, and product disposition to ensure stable production performance.
  • Drive manufacturing profitability and operational excellence through yield improvement, OEE optimization, retest reduction, cost-saving initiatives, and automation projects that enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Own product test engineering activities, including test program development/debugging, release management, test coverage optimization, product audits, and support for engineering change revisions to ensure robust test quality and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, and global engineering organizations to resolve technical issues, support customer requirements, and achieve business objectives.
  • Analyze production and test data using statistical and problem-solving methodologies to identify improvement opportunities and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in semiconductor test manufacturing, product engineering, or test engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) platforms such as Advantest V93000, Teradyne J750, UltraFlex, or equivalent semiconductor test systems.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain operations, including wafer sort, final test, backend assembly, qualification, and post-test processes.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis, reliability testing, problem-solving methodologies, and root cause investigation techniques.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and global teams.
Good to Have
  • Knowledge in test hardware(debugging)/ handler/prober platforms
  • Experience with C++/Python/Linux/HTML programming
  • Skills in statistical data analysis tools (JMP, etc.)
