Job summary

Lam Research in Penang, Malaysia seeks a Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer to drive supplier quality for PCB/PCBA manufacturing. You will design and implement QA programs, inspect processes, and analyze data with supplier teams to resolve technical and production challenges.

Responsibilities include onboarding suppliers to Lam's standards, conducting audits, reviewing EQs/DFM, and coordinating cross-functional efforts with Engineering and Supply Chain. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in PCB design/manufacturing and supplier quality preferably in semiconductor industry.
• Able to interpret schematics, Gerber files, fabrication notes and engineering docs.
• Strong quality system knowledge and corrective action experience (SCARs, 8D).

Responsibilities

• Developing and onboarding PCB suppliers to meet Lam quality standards.
• Support supplier process audits, capability assessments, and CAPA closure.
• Review EQs/DFM queries from PCB suppliers and identify gaps or risks.

The impact you’ll make

As a Supplier Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer at Lam, you'll make an impact in ensuring suppliers manufacturing processes and products meet quality standards by designing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance programs. You design methods for inspecting, testing, and evaluating production processes and finished products onsite at our global suppliers’ locations. By analyzing production data, you identify trends and partner with the supplier to resolve technical, quality and production challenges. Your expertise will help develop excellence in supplier product inputs supporting Lam's commitment to delivering high-quality and reliable products.

What you’ll do

• Supplier development, program/project management, cross-functional team alignmentfunctions for key initiatives in the Supplier Engineering and Technology (SET) Group. Ourgroup in SET is responsible for innovation and problem-solving in PCBA manufacturing, test,supplier quality, supply chain design, and material & supplier selection, development, and technology
• Developing and onboarding PCB Suppliers to meet Lam quality standards. Supporting supplier process audits, manufacturing capability assessments, capacity reviews, and quality system evaluations. Identify risks and drive closure of audit findings.
• Reviewing the first round of Engineering Questions (EQs/DFM queries) from PCB suppliers. identify technical gaps, risks, or deviations in supplier deliverables and communicate findings clearly.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Leading PCB supplier transition activities from NPI to production and/or multi-sourcing of bare fabs
• Interfacing with key teams within Lam including technical product groups, account teams and global operations as a representative of SET
• Influencing decisions and company-driven objectives within internal and external groups to achieve goals
• Providing seamless interface with SET global commodity heads to account teams and othermembers of SET
• Organizing and owning internal and external Review Meetings.

Who we’re looking for

• PCB/PCBA manufacturing knowledge and design for manufacturability (DFM & DFA)- PCB design, fabrication and assembly process, SMT assembly processes, Reflow soldering, SPI,Wave/selective solder,AOI, ICT, flying probe,BGA, QFN, CSP assembly, X-ray inspection, High-density and high-layer-count PCBAs,functional test, and reliability testing methodologies
• Strong understanding of PCB manufacturing workflows and EMS / PCB supplier engagement
• Experienced with interpreting electrical schematics, assembly drawings, Gerber files,fabrication notes, and engineering documentation, and can effectively communicate technicalrequirements with suppliers
• Expertize in coordinating with incumbent suppliers to obtain and validate as-built Gerber files, Certificates of Conformance (CoC), and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR).
• Review and validate as-built PCB documentation to ensure alignment with design intent and manufacturing requirements.
• IPC standards fluency: IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721,IPC-6012;ability to apply acceptability criteria directly in supplier audits and non-conformance disposition.
• Manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs), 8D investigations, containment actions,and root cause analysis efforts to rapidly resolve quality issues and drive systemicimprovements
• Experience using Valor, Cadence Allegro, CAM350 or similar tool
• Working knowledge of SPC, Cpk, DOE, GR&R (MSA), 5-Why, 6S/7W, t/F tests, box plots, 8D,Ishikawa diagrams
• Proficient in written and verbal communication (English).
• Ability and willingness to travel globally to supplier manufacturing locations as required.

Preferred qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science orequivalent. Minimum 8 years’ experience in PCB design/manufacturing, supplier quality, preferably in the Semiconductor Industry
