Job summary

ib vogt is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to lead technical assessment and design for BESS and PV projects in the APAC region. You will develop technical documents, review designs, and coordinate with stakeholders for successful deployment.

The role requires deep knowledge of BESS and PV technologies, IEC standards, and project management. Reporting to the EPC Engineering Manager APAC, you will work from Malaysia on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energies, or similar.
• 5–8 years of experience in BESS and solar or renewable energy projects.
• In-depth knowledge of BESS/PV system design and IEC codes.
• Techno-economic aspects and latest market developments in BESS/solar.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering in development, tendering, realization, testing & commissioning of BESS and PV projects.
• Assess site topography, BESS components, and technology selections for green-field development.
• Prepare tender specs and technical packages for BESS components.
• Review BESS/PV simulations, analyses, and cost elements.
• Coordinate with grid teams on HV specifications and grid integration.
• Conduct energy yield simulations (PVsyst) and optimize project performance.

Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for technical assessment, developing technical documents, reviewing technical design, coordinating with stakeholders and implementing battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects within APAC region. This role involves a deep understanding of BESS system & technologies, electrical engineering, PV solar system & technologies, stakeholders’ engagement and project management. You will report to the EPC Engineering Manager APAC.

Job Description

• Supports the engineering team in all stages for projects i.e., development, tendering, realization, testing & commissioning and towards the End of asset life cycle covering BESS.
• Supporting in assessment of site topography, potential constraints, main BESS electrical components sizing and selection of suitable technology for BESS green field development (including Standalone or Hybrid BESS).
• Prepare and review of tendering specifications, employer requirements, technical specifications and engineering design packages for BESS components.
• Review and evaluation of BESS/PV and hybrid simulation, modelling, analysis, calculation, tender documents, technical requirements and cost element.
• Review of BESS & solar PV components i.e., single line diagrams up to MV and coordinating with grid team for HV specifications matters.
• Evaluation of climate data sources and preparation of energy yield simulations (PVsyst) to provide key project performance indicators for commercial project optimization. Perform comparison and provide recommendation to optimize the PVsyst simulation by bidders
• Design/assessment of BESS systems, including sizing components, selecting equipment, and developing system schematics, system integration plans, considering factors like grid connection, power electronics, and control systems.
• Conduct BESS technical analysis, including load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.
• Participating in technical discussions and negotiations with EPC, suppliers and technical advisors related to BESS projects/components.
• Participating in site visits related to BESS and as required by management.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Candidates must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energies, or similar.
• At least five (5) to 8 years of working experience in the related field is required for this position. Ideally with experience in BESS and solar (utility scale projects), renewable energies construction projects, in different markets within Malaysia and APAC region.
• In depth knowledge of BESS/PV system design (engineering planning), IEC codes and specifications according to the project / country specific requirements as per relevant standards.
• Good understanding of techno-economic aspects of BESS and solar projects and latest market developments

Required skill(s):

• Sound design knowledge in areas of BESS/solar plant layouts, BESS/solar component & electrical design, SLD, MV and HV equipment’s, power transmission, system loss calculation, & general electrical requirements of large-scale solar power plants.
• In depth knowledge in PV modules, inverters, MV stations, MMF, cables, transformers, MV switchgears relays and industry best practices.
• Software skills: Mandatory – AutoCAD, PVSyst, PVCase and MS office; Desired – BESS simulation, BESS Sizing tools & other BESS software applicable in the market.
