Job summary

Cognizant in Malaysia seeks a Senior Software Engineer to drive AI-centric development across the full stack. You will embed AI capabilities as the default interface throughout design, development, testing, and delivery, applying agentic frameworks and routine validation.

You will lead end-to-end features, manage PR lifecycles, write tests, and ensure security and compliance in a regulated financial services environment while mentoring teammates on AI practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in CS/IT or related discipline.
• Minimum six years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Hands-on proficiency with AI coding assistants and agentic development frameworks as a primary development interface.
• Practical experience with automated end-to-end testing frameworks.
• Proficiency in modern full-stack development across front-end and back-end technologies.
• Cloud development experience, preferably with Microsoft Azure.
• Strong prompt engineering skills, with the ability to decompose ambiguous requirements into precise and effective AI task instructions.
• Proven ability to critically assess, validate, and improve AI-generated code rather than relying solely on code generation.
• Proficiency in Mandarin (spoken and written) to support day-to-day business communications with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full pull request lifecycle, including branching, implementation, review response, and merge activities.
• Write unit and integration tests for all implemented features.
• Conduct code reviews focused on correctness, security, and long-term maintainability.
• Integrate AI models and APIs with enterprise applications, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Facilitate daily stand-ups at the Senior level, time-boxed and technical.
• Own squad-level technical decisions and coordinate across squads.
• Define and champion team AI development standards and prompt engineering practices.
• Build organizational AI literacy through knowledge sharing and documentation.
• Collaborate with QA engineers on acceptance criteria and test scenarios.
• Ensure all AI-assisted development adheres to security, data protection, and compliance standards.
• Use AI to assist in creating and maintaining technical documentation, API specs, and comments.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies, retrospectives, and team discussions.

Engineers at all levels are expected to use AI coding assistants and agentic development frameworks as standard practice while maintaining the engineering judgment to determine when to trust, challenge, or override AI-generated outputs. The focus is on building and delivering high-quality software with AI embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Implement features and technical stories end-to-end, including appropriate test coverage.
• Manage the full pull request lifecycle, including branching, implementation, review response, and merge activities.
• Write unit and integration tests for all implemented features.
• Conduct code reviews focused on correctness, security, and long-term maintainability.
• Integrate AI models and APIs with enterprise applications, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Facilitate daily stand-ups at the Senior level, keeping discussions time-boxed, technical, and focused on impediments.
• Own squad-level technical decisions and escape cross-squad concerns to the SWE Lead.
