Job summary

MCG Asia is seeking a Java Engineer to design and build backend platforms powering essential financial services workflows in a regulated environment. You will work on secure, scalable systems, translating business requirements into robust code.

You’ll contribute to microservices with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and database integrations, while aligning with CI/CD, testing, and security best practices in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Java (ideally Java 17+)
• Spring Boot and microservices architecture
• Experience building REST APIs and backend integrations
• Solid OOP and design patterns understanding
• SQL with PostgreSQL/Oracle/SQL Server
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and Agile delivery
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments is advantageous

Job description

Our client is looking to hire a Java Engineer to help build and enhance the backend platforms powering critical financial services workflows. You’ll work in a collaborative engineering team, turning business requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable systems used in a regulated environment.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys clean architecture, high-quality code, and solving problems that genuinely matter to the business. Previous experience working within FS and B2C is preferred.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based backend services and APIs.
• Build and enhance microservices using Spring Boot and modern Java.
• Translate business and product requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and external systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews.
• Improve application performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
• Work with relational databases, messaging systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with product, QA, business analysts, and senior engineers.

What we’re looking for

• Strong commercial experience with Java (ideally Java 17+).
• Solid hands‑on experience with Spring / Spring Boot and microservices.
• Experience building REST APIs and backend integrations.
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, and clean coding practices.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and Agile delivery.
• Good problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset.
• Financial services, banking, payments, fintech, or other regulated‑industry experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Exposure to trading, payments, risk, treasury, lending, or post‑trade platforms.

Nice to have

• Kafka or other event‑driven/messaging technologies.
• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Cloud experience, particularly AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with performance tuning, JVM diagnostics, or high-volume transactional systems.
