Job summary

Techstreet Malaysia is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to lead design and development of scalable Java microservices using Spring Boot and JPA/Hibernate.

You will drive SDLC, design databases, and manage AWS/Kubernetes deployments, while mentoring engineers and ensuring high availability and performance through observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–5+ years of enterprise backend Java experience.
• Advanced expertise in Java 11/17+, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and ORM (JPA/Hibernate).
• Proven microservices architecture and event-driven design experience (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Production experience with Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, and AWS.
• Strong SQL optimization and distributed transaction management.
• Experience with monitoring/APM tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, ELK).
• Mandarin reading/writing ability for client/regions teams.
• Strong leadership and architecture decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architectural decisions, and development of scalable microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Data JPA/Hibernate.
• Drive the full SDLC including technical specs, system design, code reviews, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
• Design, optimize, and maintain complex relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) with advanced SQL tuning and partitioning.
• Architect and manage cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and AWS services.
• Set up observability, logging and tracing (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK, Jaeger) for high availability.
• Mentor junior engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Lead RCA and resolution of production incidents, performance bottlenecks, and security issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and provide technical estimates.
• Evaluate new technologies and patterns to continuously improve development standards.

Job description

• Lead the design, architectural decision-making, and development of scalable microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Data JPA / Hibernate.
• Drive the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including technical specification drafting, system architecture design, code review, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
• Design, optimize, and maintain complex relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle), including complex SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and database sharding or partitioning.
• Architect and manage cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and AWS services (EC2, EKS, RDS, SQS/SNS, Lambda).
• Set up and maintain system observability, central logging, and distributed tracing solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK Stack, Jaeger) to guarantee high availability and performance.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through regular code reviews, technical guidance, and team knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis (RCA), and resolution of high-severity production incidents, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, technical leads, and stakeholders to refine requirement scope, provide technical estimates, and drive system improvements.
• Evaluate, benchmark, and introduce emerging technologies, architectural patterns, and framework updates to continuously improve development standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 to 5+ years of working experience in enterprise backend software engineering using Java.
• Advanced, deep technical expertise in Java (Java 11 / 17+), Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and ORM frameworks (JPA/Hibernate).
• Proven track record in microservices architecture, event-driven design (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ), API Gateway implementations, and RESTful web service design.
• Hands-on production experience with containerization (Docker), container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), and public cloud platforms (AWS).
• Strong expertise in SQL optimization, database indexing, query execution planning, and distributed transaction management.
• Practical experience configuring monitoring, alerting, and APM tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or ELK Stack).
• Able to read, speak, and write in Mandarin to effectively communicate and collaborate with Mandarin-speaking clients and regional technical teams.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and system design skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and drive architecture decisions independently.
