Job summary

Adecco Portugal is seeking a highly skilled Java Backend Engineer to join our global Application Development, Support and Engineering team. You will design, develop, and maintain robust financial systems with secure, scalable backend services that power our digital strategy.

You will work with Java Spring Boot or Quarkus, implement microservices, and develop REST/SOAP APIs. Expect strong focus on API security, observability, and CI/CD using Maven, Git, and Azure DevOps.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in microservice API development using Java frameworks.
• Deep expertise in Java Spring Boot or Quarkus.
• Cloud-native microservices development and API-first design.
• Experience with OAuth2, JWT and data security.
• Hands-on with observability and monitoring tools.
• Strong fundamentals in Java, Spring ecosystem, and related tools.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust, secure, and efficient financial systems. Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java Spring Boot or Quarkus
• Implement microservices architecture to ensure scalability and maintainability
• Develop REST and SOAP APIs, documented using Swagger
• Integrate with databases using ORM frameworks and ensure efficient DB connectivity

Ideal Candidates

• 5 years of experience in microservice API development using Java frameworks
• Deep expertise in Java Spring Boot or Quarkus frameworks
• Extensive experience in cloud-native microservices development and API-first design
• Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), SKE, and OpenShift
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar databases
• Knowledge of API and backend security mechanisms including OAuth2, JWT, encryption, and secrets management
• Demonstrated ability in building FaaS and Dev-in-a-box platforms
• Strong experience in API integrations across enterprise systems and external vendors
• Practical experience with observability and monitoring tools such as AppDynamics, ElasticAPM, Grafana, Prometheus, or the ELK stack
• Proficiency in core Java concepts: OOP, data structures, algorithms, and frameworks including Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Apache Struts
