The Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing, executing, and monitoring daily site construction activities for a major national rail infrastructure project. This role requires close collaboration with main contractor project teams to ensure all infrastructure works—including roads, bridges, and alignment structures—are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in strict compliance with technical specifications.
1. Site Execution & Supervision
Civil Works Oversight: Supervise daily on-site construction activities, focusing specifically on heavy infrastructural components such as road construction, bridge structures, foundations, and related civil works.
Progress Monitoring: Monitor work progress against the master construction schedule to ensure milestones are met efficiently by sub-contractors and site workers.
Issue Resolution: Identify site anomalies, technical bottlenecks, or construction deviations early, and coordinate immediate corrective actions on-site.
2. Stakeholder & Main-Contractor Coordination
Interface Management: Maintain a close and effective working relationship with the main contractor's engineering and supervisory teams across active project zones.
Joint Site Inspections: Participate in joint site walks, technical alignments, and handovers with the main contractor and consultants to ensure works meet their strict criteria.
3. Technical Support & Material Management
Drawing Interpretation: Review and interpret structural, alignment, and civil engineering drawings; ensure the site team is executing works based on the latest approved Construction Drawings / Shop Drawings.
Material Tracking: Coordinate with Procurement and Site Admin teams to ensure that essential materials required for infrastructure works (concrete, reinforcement steel, etc.) are verified, ordered, and utilized effectively.
4. Documentation Support
Site Records: Maintain accurate daily site diaries, machinery logs, and progress photos to document project advancements.
Quality Coordination: Work alongside the internal QAQC team to ensure site readiness prior to raising formal Requests for Inspection (RFI) to the main contractor.
Education: Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience: Minimum 2 to 4 years of solid site experience in heavy civil infrastructure. A proven background working on roadworks, bridge construction, or major earthworks/railway alignment is required.
Technical Skills:
Languages: Good verbal and written communication in English and Bahasa Melayu to handle site coordination and paperwork. (Ability to understand or speak Mandarin is an added advantage when communicating with specific technical project documentation).
Mobility: Must possess own transport and be willing to be based at the project site offices.
Attributes: Highly responsible, problem-solver mindset, and able to work productively under pressure within a fast-paced subcontractor ecosystem.
