Job summary

Ascentec Engineering Sdn Bhd in Batu Kawan, Penang, is seeking an experienced CAM Programmer to develop, optimize, and maintain CAM programs for complex precision-machined components. You will design fixtures and workholding, select tooling, and devise machining strategies for 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis centers, including mill-turn machines.

You will verify programs with CAM software (Mastercam) and simulate to prevent collisions, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support across Manufacturing,

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years hands-on CAM programming experience in precision/high‑mix manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam; experience with latest versions preferred.
  • Strong fixture design experience and knowledge of advanced workholding systems.
  • Solid understanding of CNC machining, tooling, feeds/speeds, GD&T, and tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain CAM programs for complex precision-machined components.
  • Create complex fixture designs and workholding solutions for machining requirements.
  • Develop CNC programs and machining strategies for 3-axis to 5-axis centers and Mill-Turn machines.
  • Select cutting tools, parameters, toolpaths, and workholding methods to meet quality targets.
  • Verify CAM programs with simulation to minimize collisions and errors; troubleshoot issues and support production.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, Production, and Quality during NPI and production improvements.
  • Ensure programs, setup data, tooling, and manufacturing documentation are properly prepared and maintained.
  • Provide technical support during assigned shifts and assist as needed.

Job description

Develop, optimize, and maintain CAM programs for complex precision-machined components.

Create complex fixture designs and workholding solutions to support machining requirements.

Develop CNC programs and machining strategies for:

  • Vertical 3-Axis Machining Centers
  • Horizontal 4-Axis Machining Centers
  • 5-Axis Machining Centers
  • Mill-Turn Machines

Select appropriate cutting tools, machining parameters, toolpaths, and workholding methods to achieve required quality and productivity.

Apply advanced machining and workholding concepts for complex components and setups.

Optimize existing CNC programs to improve cycle time, tool life, machining stability, and overall productivity.

Perform CAM program verification and simulation to minimize machining risks, collisions, and programming errors.

Troubleshoot machining and programming issues and provide technical support to production.

Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, Production, and Quality teams during new product introduction and production improvement activities.

Ensure programs, setup information, tooling requirements, and related manufacturing documentation are properly prepared and maintained.

Support machining activities during assigned shifts and provide technical assistance when required.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Machining Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or another relevant engineering discipline.

Minimum 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in CAM programming, preferably in a precision machining or high‑mix manufacturing environment.

Proficient in Mastercam, preferably with experience using the latest versions.

Strong experience in complex part programming and complex fixture design.

Good knowledge of advanced workholding systems and machining techniques.

Demonstrated ability to program:

  • 3-Axis Vertical Machining Centers
  • Horizontal Machining Centers
  • 5-Axis Machining Centers
  • Mill-Turn Machines

Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, GD&T, engineering drawings, and machining tolerances.

Good problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to support production machining issues.

Added Advantages

Candidates with the following knowledge or experience will have an added advantage:

  • Experience with Okuma machines and OSP controllers.
  • Experience with Mazak machines and MAZATROL controllers.
  • Experience with NCSIMUL for CNC program simulation and verification.
Shift & Work Requirements

Must be willing and able to work on a shift schedule.

Must be willing to work on weekends and/or public holidays when operationally required.

Able to provide production and technical support according to manufacturing requirements.
