The Settlements Processing Analyst is responsible for performing daily cash and securities settlement activities for Markets products, ensuring timely, accurate and controlled processing of settlement instructions, confirmations, funding movements, exception handling and break resolution in line with market cut-offs and internal control standards.
The role supports day-to-day settlements processing across cash products, securities transactions, treasury activities, securities financing and other Markets-related flows requiring accurate settlement, reconciliation and exception management.
The candidate must be able to work on Singapore public holidays and support London market hours as required, given the global nature of Markets Operations and the need to meet overseas market settlement cut-offs for both cash and securities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Daily Cash & Securities Settlement Processing
- Process daily settlement instructions for cash and securities transactions, ensuring accuracy, completeness and submission within market and internal cut-offs.
- Handle settlement matching, confirmation, release, cancellation, amendment and follow-up activities across relevant payment and securities settlement platforms.
- Monitor settlement queues, unmatched items, pending settlements, failed trades and funding issues, escalating exceptions promptly to minimise settlement risk and operational impact.
2. Reconciliation, Breaks & Exception Management
- Perform daily cash, nostro, depot, securities position and settlement reconciliations, investigating discrepancies with internal teams, custodians, agents and counter parties.
- Track and resolve settlement breaks, unmatched trades, cash discrepancies, securities position breaks, failed settlements and aged outstanding items through to closure.
- Maintain clear records of break reasons, escalation actions, resolutions and outstanding risk items for reporting, audit and management review purposes.
3. Controls, Risk & Regulatory Discipline
- Execute cash and securities settlement processes in accordance with operating procedures, risk controls, regulatory obligations and service level agreements.
- Perform maker/checker controls, data validation and exception escalation to ensure completeness and accuracy of processing.
- Support timely reporting of operational incidents, control issues and aged exceptions.
- Assist with audit, regulatory, management and internal review requests as required.
- Ensure all breaks and high-risk items are documented, owned and followed through until resolution.
4. Stakeholder & Counter party Engagement
- Liaise with Front Office, Treasury, Finance, Risk, Legal, Custody, Nostro, Technology, agents, custodians, brokers and external counterparties to resolve cash and securities settlement issues.
- Communicate clearly on settlement status, failed trades, funding issues, cut-off constraints and escalations, especially where action is time-sensitive.
5. Shift Coverage & Business Continuity
- Support London hours coverage to meet overseas market cut-offs and ensure continuity of cash and securities settlement processing across time zones.
- Work on Singapore public holidays where required, particularly when overseas markets remain open and cash or securities settlement obligations continue to apply.
- Participate in contingency arrangements, volume peaks, market holidays, funding deadlines and critical market events to support timely settlement and risk reduction.
6. Process Improvement & Team Support
- Identify recurring breaks, manual workarounds and process inefficiencies, and support remediation or automation initiatives.
- Maintain accurate procedures, checklists and process documentation.
- Support cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team to strengthen operational resilience.
- Contribute to team metrics, risk dashboards and management reporting where required.
- Demonstrate ownership, accuracy and urgency in all time-critical cash and securities settlement activities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in either cash settlements, securities settlements or trade support within a financial institution.
- Good understanding of cash settlement, securities settlement, trade lifecycle, reconciliations, failed trade management and operational risk controls.
- Familiarity with treasury products such as securities products, FX, money markets or other Markets products would be an advantage.
- Able to work London hours and on Singapore public holidays where business needs require cash and securities market coverage.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and ability to process high volumes within tight deadlines.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate settlement breaks, cash discrepancies, securities position breaks, failed trades and root causes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with Front Office, Treasury, Finance, Risk, Legal, Custody, Nostro, Technology, agents, custodians, brokers and external counterparties.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with operational systems, reports and reconciliations.
- Able to remain calm, organised and risk-focused during deadline pressure, market events or exception-heavy days.
