Job summary

AECOM in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is seeking aSenior Mechanical Engineer specializing in tunnel ventilation systems (TVS) and fire strategies. The role covers design, simulations and equipment specifications for tunnels, rail, roads and buildings, with strong client interaction and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

You will develop 3D CFD models (PyroSim/FDS) for smoke management, validate designs and support procurement and installation activities within multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Registered with Board of Engineer (BEM).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in ventilation design and fire systems for tunnels/buildings.
• Proficiency in SES, IDA Tunnel, FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder or related software.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform complex calculations and engineering tests.
• Experience gathering and correlating engineering data.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and verify TVS for tunnels, buildings and transit facilities; prepare fire life safety designs and analyses.
• Respond to client queries with technical clarity.
• Provide technical guidance on mid-to-large projects.
• Prepare calculations, drawings and specifications for mechanical ventilation systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure design accuracy and compliance.
• Develop 3D CFD simulations for smoke management and air flow.
• Coordinate with vendors on equipment selections and space planning.
• Assist in design reports, cost estimates and project schedules.
