Job summary

AMD in Penang, Malaysia seeks an SMTS Product Development Engineer focused on server system debugging for next-generation AMD microprocessors. You will act as a technical specialist, mentoring junior engineers and guiding debugging, validation and design efforts to ensure reliable product delivery.

You will collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams; require knowledge of DDR, PCIe, BIOS/OS and driver interactions; and bring strong problem-solving and cross-functional leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in computer engineering, computer science or electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams on content coverage, test pattern development, validation, and debugging.
• Understand server busses (DDR, PCIe) and high‑speed IO, plus high‑speed digital design and signal integrity.
• Understand BIOS, OS, and driver interactions at the system level and x86 CPU architecture.
• Solve sophisticated problems, initiate changes to processes, and lead development and implementation.
• Identify and plan product improvements to reduce cost, improve yield, and resolve quality issues.

The Role

This is a specialized engineering position responsible as an overall expert in Server system debug for next-generation AMD microprocessors. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to the business, design, platform validation and product engineering teams. The Person

You will provide technical supervision or mentoring to junior engineers and influence others as a subject matter expert. A successful candidate is one who can drive technical decisions independently, has accountability for accuracy, reliability and completeness of assignment results critical to the project’s success.This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams for content coverage, test pattern development, validation, and debugging
• A thorough understanding of Server industry standard busses, such as DDR, PCIe and other high-speed IO protocol is required in addition to detailed knowledge of high-speed digital design and signal integrity
• Further requirements include a strong understanding of BIOS, OS, and driver interactions at the system level as well as a proficient understanding of x86 CPU architecture and functionality
• Solves sophisticated, novel, and non-recurring problems; initiates significant changes to existing processes/ methods and leads development and implementation
• Identify and plan product improvement activities to reduce cost, improve yield and resolve quality issues

Preferred Experience

• Experience with being responsible for projects or processes of significant technical importance and for results that cross engineering project areas
• Experience in use of tools such as Jtag debuggers, logic analyzers, and PCIe bus analyzers
• Proficient in Linux, Unix, or Windows OS
• Statistical analysis experience to resolve population mean and outliers
• Deep knowledge of computer architecture is preferred

Academic Credentials

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in computer engineering or computer science or electrical engineering, or comparable disciplines.
