Job summary

Bosch Malaysia is seeking an experienced Hardware Design Engineer to lead electronic design activities for category B/C projects in Penang. You will create circuit diagrams, develop BOMs, establish a WBS, and ensure designs meet product specifications.

The role requires hands-on EMC testing, validation, and manufacturing support, with knowledge of automotive standards (IATF 16949, ISO 26262) and problem-solving via FMEA/DFMA. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in electronic hardware design and product development.
• Strong circuit design, schematic development, component selection, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on product validation, EMC testing, design verification, and manufacturing support.
• Proficient with FMEA, DFMA, 8D, DRBFM, and Six Sigma.
• Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
• Knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 26262 is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on category B/C electronic design projects and guide delivery.
• Prepare circuit diagrams to meet product specs.
• Maintain BOMs for category B/C projects.
• Establish a WBS for electronic design and development.
• Evaluate designs for cost, quality, and performance.
• Recommend components for new product designs.
• Support sample builds, troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Prepare inputs for test instructions and EMC test plans.
• Act as change engineer for EOL component replacements.
• Review customer specifications and propose feasible solutions.
• Estimate engineering effort including man-hours, materials, travel, testing.
• Provide guidance on automotive industry norms and standards (CDQ, TS16949, ISO26262).
• Provide technical training on hardware design for automotive infotainment/compute devices.
• Develop organizational standards and contribute to tech roadmaps.
• Coordinate continuous improvement activities within the team.
• Participate in technical forums to stay updated on electronics developments.

Job description

• Collaborate as project team member for category B/C projects on electronic design matters, identify issues; provide appropriate guidance and advice to ensure delivery of quality outcomes.
• Prepares circuit diagram for the realization of HW design in meeting product specification (internally/and externally) for category B/C projects.
• Prepare, update and maintain product design electronic specification, bill of material (BOM) for category B/C projects.
• Establish a Work-Breakdown-Structure (WBS) on electronic design and development for project category B/C.
• Evaluate electronic device design and identify potential areas of improvement in terms of cost, quality and performance for medium complexity products.
• Evaluate and recommend electronic components for application in new product design with medium innovation.
• Interact and provide support for projects sample built, troubleshooting and issues solving for category B/C projects.
• Prepare input for creation of product manufacturing test instructions (PAV); electrical validation test (FEP); EMC test plan for high complexity products.
• Interact as change engineer for electronic components replacement due to parts end-of-life (EOL) that require major design update.
• Evaluate and review customer technical specifications on electronic design feasibility, proposed alternative solution; deviation list; and concept presentation for high complexity products.
• Estimate and provide engineering effort requires for electronic design and development including manhour, material, travelling, test and validation with major derivative projects.
• Provide guidance, advice and mentoring on norms and standards established in automotive industry internally and externally. Eg. CDQ, TS16949, ISO26262.
• Provide technical training on hardware circuit design requirements for automotive infotainment/compute device and module development.
• Develop organizational standards on specific technical topics and contribute to technology roadmap definition.
• Plan and coordinate continuous improvement process activities to enhance and strengthen team.
• Participate in technical forum exhibition to regularly keep up to date in latest technological development of electronics devices.
• Any other duties as assigned from time to time to accomplish related results as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5-10 years of experience in electronic hardware design and product development.
• Strong experience in circuit design, schematic development, component selection, and electronic troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience in product validation, EMC testing, design verification, and manufacturing support.
• Proficient in engineering methodologies and problem-solving tools such as FMEA, DFMA, 8D, DRBFM, and Six Sigma.
• Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
• Knowledge of automotive development standards such as IATF 16949, ISO 26262, and automotive electronic design practices is an added advantage.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
