Job summary

Hatfield Thistle Sdn. Bhd. in Penang seeks a senior software engineer to own end-to-end store software initiatives, from discovery to production.

You will build store-facing software using C#/.NET, design data pipelines on SQL, and integrate POS/kiosk hardware and IoT devices. This hands-on role requires strong English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia communication, and willingness to travel within Malaysia.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and shipping production software
• Strong C#/.NET, with solid SQL and relational database experience
• Hands-on hardware competence: working with POS/kiosk peripherals, IoT devices
• Experience turning loosely defined business requirements into clear technical designs
• Self-directed: own a project from start to finish in a small team
• Strong communication skills in English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia
• Based in Malaysia or willing to relocate and travel between retail outlets

Responsibilities

• Own solutions end-to-end: run discovery with non-technical stakeholders, write the design, build it, ship it and support it in production
• Build store-facing software: self-checkout kiosks, POS-connected tools and back-office applications on C#/.NET
• Design and maintain data pipelines: order imports, sales reporting, and forecasting/insight tooling on SQL databases
• Integrate hardware: kiosk peripherals such as touchscreens, receipt printers and payment terminals, plus IoT sensors and connected store equipment
• Roll out and support: bring systems to new stores as they open and keep existing stores running smoothly
• Raise the bar: as an early senior hire, shape engineering patterns and tooling, and mentor as the team grows

Job description

Twelve months in, success looks like this: store systems you designed are running across our Malaysian locations, telemetry from connected equipment is feeding live dashboards and back-office data flows that used to be manual now run themselves. You will work directly with the founders and store teams — no layers, no hand-offs. You gather the requirement, you design the solution, you build it, and you are standing next to the espresso machine when it goes live.

Key Responsibilities:

Own solutions end-to-end: run discovery with non-technical stakeholders, write the design, build it, ship it and support it in production

Requirements:

5+ years building and shipping production software, including projects taken from requirements gathering through to live operation

Strong C#/.NET, with solid SQL and relational database experience

Hands-on hardware competence: comfortable specifying, connecting and troubleshooting devices — POS and kiosk peripherals, IoT devices, store networking

Experience turning loosely defined business requirements into clear technical designs

Self-directed: able to own a project from start to finish in a small team

Strong communication skills in English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia

Based in Malaysia or willing to relocate and able to travel between retail outlets as required

Experience in retail technology, POS, kiosks, payment and loyalty platforms is an added advantage

Familiarity with Azure, Android, desktop application development, CI/CD, and IoT technologies is a plus
