Job Summary The QAQC Engineer (Concrete)
Ensures that all concrete manufacturing, batching, testing, and placement comply with project specifications, standard codes (e.g., ACI, ASTM, or BS EN standards), and quality management systems. This role bridges production, laboratory testing, and field execution to guarantee structural integrity and quality compliance.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- Mix Design & Batching Plant Supervision
- Evaluate, test, and optimize concrete mix designs (standard, high-strength, self-consolidating, or precast).
- Supervised and inspect batching plant operations, aggregate stockpiles, moisture content, scale calibrations, and chemical admixture dosing.
- Monitor ambient temperatures, concrete temperatures, water-cement ratios, and slump retention during mixing and transit.
- Ensure precise batching operations and monitor batch records to prevent batching errors or yield variances.
- Trial mix execution, optimization and analyze trial mix results
- Ensure the concrete related document and concrete designs and trial mix proposals approved by client representatives.
- Ensure full implementation of approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Quality Control, including concrete production at all times.
- Sampling & Laboratory Testing
- Oversee and monitor physical testing on fresh and hardened concrete: o Fresh: Slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and setting time. o Hardened: Compressive strength (7, 28, 56 days), tensile splitting, and durability testing (water absorption, permeability, chloride penetration, etc.).
- Conduct quality testing on incoming raw materials (aggregates, cement, fly ash, slag, water, and admixtures).
- Monitor and maintain calibration logs for all lab testing equipment (universal testing machines, curing tanks, slump cones, scales).
- Site Quality Control & Placement Monitoring
- Monitor concrete transit, slump retention, temperature, cube sampling, pouring, compaction, and curing techniques.
- Workability & Delivery: Ensure concrete workability at site matches delivery requirements and address site-specific challenges (e.g., delivery, hot-weather concreting, placement delays).
- Concrete Investigation: Monitor placed concrete for temperature control monitoring, thermal issues, and direct immediate remedial actions.
- Compliance, Documentation & Auditing
- Document and maintain daily QC reports, batch tickets, strength test results, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Investigate out-of-specification test results or structural defects, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with third-party testing laboratories, client representatives, and engineers during inspections and site audits.
Qualifications
- Minimum Degree in Civil engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline. Expected Minimum Years of Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of quality control experience in ready-mix concrete production, precast plants, or major civil/structural construction projects. Specific skills
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, or BS EN standards related to concrete and raw materials.
- Soft Skills: Attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, site safety awareness, and effective communication with site crews and project management teams. Personal qualities
