Job summary

SEAGULL COOLING TECHNOLOGIES (ASIA PACIFIC) Sdn Bhd is seeking a piping engineer to lead and perform piping design for cooling water distribution systems, including CDU-to-server-rack piping.

The role covers developing layouts, P&IDs, isometrics, sizing calculations, and ensuring compliance with codes. You will coordinate with CDU, pumps, heat exchangers, and site teams, and guide junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Professional engineering certification or piping engineering certification is advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of piping design/engineering experience.
• Experience with data center cooling systems (CDU, liquid cooling) is a bonus.

• Lead and perform piping design for cooling water systems.

• Perform sizing, flow, and pressure drop calculations for system performance.
• Review piping flexibility and stress analyses, including thermal expansion and loads.

• Provide technical guidance to procurement, manufacturing, and site teams.

Job description

Lead and perform piping engineering and design for cooling water distribution systems, including CDU-to-server-rack piping and associated connections.

Develop and review piping layouts, routing, P&IDs, isometric drawings, piping arrangements, and engineering specifications.

Perform or review piping sizing, flow, pressure drop, hydraulic and other relevant engineering calculations to ensure system performance.

Perform or review piping flexibility and stress analysis, including thermal expansion, operating loads, support conditions, equipment nozzle loads, and applicable design criteria.

Select and specify suitable piping materials, pipes, fittings, flanges, gaskets, valves, strainers, and related components based on operating conditions and project requirements.

Demonstrate good knowledge of valves, including isolation, check, control, balancing, and other relevant valve types, and ensure appropriate selection, arrangement, and accessibility.

Review and coordinate instrumentation requirements associated with piping systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, differential pressure, control valves, and related instruments.

Review vendor drawings, technical datasheets, equipment interfaces, valve and instrument documents, and ensure compliance with approved design requirements.

Coordinate piping interfaces with CDU, pumps, heat exchangers, server-rack cooling connections, equipment, supports, structural members, and other disciplines.

Provide technical support to procurement, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and site teams, and resolve piping-related technical issues and non-conformities.

Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, risk reviews, HAZOP/FMEA or similar reviews where applicable, and provide technical recommendations.

Ensure piping designs comply with applicable international/local codes, standards, project specifications, company standards, quality requirements, and safety requirements.

Review and ensure completeness and accuracy of piping engineering documentation, calculations, drawings, BOM/MTO, specifications, and technical reports.

Identify potential design risks, constructability issues, cost-saving opportunities, and opportunities to improve standardization and engineering efficiency.

Provide technical guidance to junior engineers/designers and support knowledge transfer and continuous improvement of piping design practices.

Job Requirement

Candidate in Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering field.

Professional engineering certification or relevant piping engineering certification is an advantage.

Minimum 5 years of experience in piping design, engineering and/or piping analysis.

Experience in data center cooling systems, CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit), liquid cooling, direct-to-chip cooling, or CDU-to-server-rack piping is an advantage but not mandatory.

Experience with piping stress analysis software such as CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, or equivalent is preferred.

Strong knowledge of piping design, routing, piping components, valves, and related instruments.

Ability to perform or review piping engineering calculations and piping flexibility/stress analysis.

Ability to interpret and develop P&IDs, piping layouts, isometric drawings, equipment interfaces, and specifications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgement.

Ability to coordinate effectively across project, design, procurement, manufacturing, QAQC, and site teams.

Ability to review technical documents and communicate technical requirements clearly to internal and external parties.

Ability to guide junior engineers/designers and provide technical solutions to piping-related issues.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/design software.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Able to work overseas when required.
