Job description

This role is a dual-function position providing petrophysical technical support for both operations and studies. Supporting DIALOG’s integrated subsurface study, surveillance, workover, drilling and completion operations appropriate to business context including business development (BD), appraisal, development and production activities.

The Sr. Petrophysicist technical general scopes of work are listed below but may be expanded and/or reduced based on data availability and project objectives:

Job Responsibilities:
Reservoir Characterization and Field Studies
  • Splice overlapping log runs into single composite curves, perform rigorous depth alignment and tie-in across log suites to eliminate depth discrepancies.
  • Execute structured quality control (QC) protocols on field-wide well logs across all acquisition vintages, implement normalization algorithms to reconcile tool response variations, apply environmental corrections for borehole conditions, and resolve data anomalies to deliver a standardized, depth-consistent petrophysical database.
  • Perform detailed quality assurance (QA) audits of petrophysical analyses to identify critical gaps in log interpretation, core calibration, and fluid distribution then deliver targeted solutions that enhance subsurface model confidence.
  • Conduct integrated fluid distribution study incorporating well logs, mud-logs, pressure/sampling data, DST, and production data to define fluid, identify discrete pressure compartments, and assess reservoir connectivity for optimized field development.
  • Perform core-log integrated reservoir characterization by classifying reservoir intervals into discrete hydraulic flow units (HFUs) using Flow Zone Indicator (FZI) or Reservoir Quality Index (RQI) methodologies, develop HFU-specific porosity-permeability transforms calibrated to core data, apply regression analysis to propagate rock properties into un-cored wells, and derive saturation-height functions for each HFU to populate water saturation distributions in the 3D static reservoir model.
  • Execute integrated deterministic and probabilistic petrophysical modeling utilizing core-calibrated algorithms to systematically compute shale volume, porosity, permeability, and water saturation across all intervals, then apply cutoff criteria to quantify net sand and net pay volumes for in-place estimation.
Operations Support & Formation Evaluation
  • Design fit-for-purpose formation evaluation programs (LWD, wireline, cased-hole) aligned with project objectives by selecting optimal tool combinations, ensuring cost-effective data acquisition that addresses key reservoir uncertainties.
  • Provide real-time operational QA/QC by supervising third-party logging contractors (on-site or remote) to validate tool calibrations, verify data header accuracy, monitor acquisition quality, and implement immediate corrective measures that ensure compliant, fit-for-purpose log data while minimizing operational delays.
  • Deliver real-time quick-look petrophysical interpretation during logging operations (open hole, cased hole) to guide immediate operational decisions including completion, and formation pressure testing strategies.
  • Provide real-time formation pressure testing (FPWD or wireline) operational QA/QC through real-time interpretation of pressure gradients to determine formation pressure, fluid types, estimate fluid contacts, and optimize fluid sampling depths.
  • Monitor real-time LWD data to identify overpressure zones or pressure transitions and collaborate with drilling teams to optimize mud weights and ensure wellbore stability and operational safety.
  • Provide real-time geosteering support by interpreting LWD measurements in collaboration with geologists to optimize wellbore trajectory to meet well objectives.
Job requirements:
  • Minimum 15 years of active experience in petrophysics with a proven track record in both development and production settings. In which minimum 5 years working with operator oil company.
  • Conduct minimum one (1) petrophysical evaluation in integrated reservoir characterization studies (FDP/FDAP or FFR) in the last five (5) years.
  • Extensive experience in building Saturation-Height Functions (SHF).
  • Extensive experience in both open-hole and cased-hole logging interpretation and operation supports.
  • Expert-level mastery of Techlogsoftware.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate and translate complex petrophysical concepts into actionable insights for non-experts.
