Job summary

Open DC in Malaysia seeks a Mechanical Engineer to provide technical engineering support for the data centre's cooling infrastructure, ensuring safe, reliable operation of chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps and ventilation.

You will plan and review preventive maintenance, coordinate with operations teams, and assist in incident investigations to sustain uptime and energy efficiency across critical IT loads.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 2–3 years in data center, critical facilities, or mechanical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units.
• Experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and upgrades.
• Experience preparing MOP, SOP, EOP, risk assessments, and technical reports.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor performance of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, and piping.
• Assess cooling capacity, redundancy, efficiency, and risks.
• Identify weaknesses and propose reliability improvements.
• Develop and review preventive maintenance plans for mechanical equipment.
• Coordinate maintenance with operations teams, contractors, and OEMs.
• Review mechanical drawings, specs, and submissions.
• Develop and review MOP, SOP, and EOP.
• Support troubleshooting, commissioning, and mechanical upgrades.
• Provide technical support during cooling failures and abnormal ops.
• Investigate failures and determine root causes for corrective actions.
• Support RCA and safe system recovery.
• Assess impact on IT loads and cooling redundancy.
• Ensure safety compliance and adherence to procedures.
• Support risk assessments, audits, and compliance.
• Maintain drawings, asset registers, maintenance records, and documentation.
• Support installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of new systems.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, OEMs, Electrical Eng, BMS, CPOS and Operations.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and chargeman.
• Support initiatives to improve cooling reliability and energy efficiency.

• Support troubleshooting, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and mechanical infrastructure upgrades.
• Provide technical support during cooling failures, equipment trips, and abnormal operating conditions.
• Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Support safe system recovery and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Assess the impact of mechanical failures on critical IT loads and cooling redundancy.
• Ensure mechanical activities comply with safety requirements, company standards, and approved procedures.
• Support risk assessments, audits, and compliance activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognized qualification.
• Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in data center, critical facilities, or mechanical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, and CRAH/CRAC units.
• Understanding of data center cooling architecture, redundancy, and critical load requirements.
• Experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and system upgrades.
• Experience preparing MOP, SOP, EOP, risk assessments, and technical reports.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
