Job summary

SD Guthrie Berhad is seeking a Senior Manager, Group Compliance to support the Head, Group Compliance in strengthening the enterprise-wide compliance framework. The role is hands-on and specialist, focusing on governance, risk management, regulatory requirements, monitoring and continuous improvement.

You will lead risk assessments, develop dashboards for governance forums and drive data-driven compliance initiatives across the group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10–15 years of relevant experience in compliance.
• Current hands-on compliance role in a large organisation.
• Industry experience in Manufacturing or Plantation is required.
• Legal background or qualification is preferred.
• Experience advising senior management on complex regulatory matters.
• Experience leading compliance improvement, digitalization or data-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Support development and enhancement of the Group Compliance Framework, policies, standards and governance.
• Lead compliance risk assessments, risk registers, control assessments and monitoring.
• Provide senior-level compliance advice to Management and business units.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess impact and required actions.
• Drive risk-based monitoring, health checks and control assessments.
• Analyze incidents and remediation needs to identify systemic issues.
• Prepare compliance reports and dashboards for senior governance forums.
• Drive compliance improvement, including process simplification and data analytics.
• Support awareness and capabilities to build enterprise-wide compliance culture.
• Supervise compliance team and coordinate with Group Legal, Risk and Internal Audit.
• Deputize for Head, Group Compliance when required.

SD Guthrie Berhad is looking for an experienced Senior Manager, Group Compliance to support the Head, Group Compliance in strengthening and driving the Group's enterprise-wide compliance framework.

This is a hands-on, specialist compliance role focused primarily on compliance governance, compliance risk management, regulatory requirements, monitoring, advisory, remediation and continuous improvement across the Group.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and continuous enhancement of the Group Compliance Framework, policies, standards and governance mechanisms.
• Lead and coordinate compliance risk assessments, risk registers, control assessments and monitoring activities.
• Provide practical, senior-level compliance advice to Management, business segments and corporate functions on complex or material compliance matters.
• Monitor regulatory and statutory developments and coordinate assessment of their impact and required organizational actions.
• Develop and execute risk-based compliance monitoring, thematic reviews, compliance health checks and control assessments.
• Analyze compliance incidents, breaches, control deficiencies and emerging risks to identify systemic issues and recommend appropriate remediation.
• Prepare high-quality compliance reports, dashboards, metrics and management information for senior Management and governance forums.
• Drive compliance improvement initiatives, including process simplification, standardization, digitalization, automation and data analytics.
• Support compliance awareness, capability building and the development of a strong enterprise-wide compliance culture.
• Provide functional guidance and technical supervision to compliance team members and designated compliance representatives.
• Work closely with Group Legal, Group Risk, Internal Audit and business functions to ensure effective coordination across the broader control environment.
• Deputize for the Head, Group Compliance on selected matters and initiatives when required.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Governance or a related discipline.
• 10-15 years of relevant professional experience, with current or recent hands-on Compliance experience is mandatory. Candidates must be actively practicing Compliance and have direct responsibility for Compliance activities in their current or most recent position.
• Experience operating at managerial or senior managerial level within a sizeable organization.
• Industry experience in Manufacturing or Plantation is required.
• Strong practical experience in Compliance is essential. This role is intended for a compliance specialist rather than a broad Legal/Risk professional seeking to move into compliance.
• Legal background or qualification is preferred, particularly where combined with substantial hands-on compliance experience.
• Experience advising senior Management on complex compliance, regulatory and governance matters.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including the ability to challenge business practices constructively and independently.
• Experience leading compliance improvement, transformation, digitalization or data-driven compliance initiatives would be an advantage.
• Multi-country / multinational compliance experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Prior people-management or team leadership experience is required.
• Professional certifications in Compliance, Governance, Risk, Internal Audit, Fraud Examination, Anti-Bribery & Corruption or Financial Crime Compliance will be an advantage.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a practical and commercially minded compliance professional who is comfortable getting into the detail, engaging directly with the business, identifying gaps, challenging controls and driving remediation.

The successful candidate should be able to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels - translating regulatory and governance requirements into practical compliance frameworks, controls and actions that work across a complex organization.

Experience in a Manufacturing or Plantation environment will be particularly relevant, especially where the candidate has worked across multiple business units, operating entities or jurisdictions.
