Job summary

Celestica is expanding its Design Centre in Penang, Malaysia, focusing on next‑gen networking, storage, and server technologies to power Cloud, AI, ML, Edge and 5G deployments worldwide. The Senior Lead Software Engineer will drive architecture, design and implementation across multiple market segments in highly regulated environments.

You will mentor teams and collaborate with global engineering groups to deliver robust embedded solutions.

Qualifications

  • Master or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Software or similar field.
  • 5–10 years of direct working experience in product design within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • PhD applicants with fewer years of industry experience will be considered.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English, ability to work with an international team.
  • Strong teamwork attitude, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Business travel possible (including overseas travel).
  • Self-motivated with the capability to drive development efforts to completion.
  • Passion for building a strong innovative team to produce a reliable embedded system.

Job description

Senior Lead Software Engineer (Advanced Technology Solutions)
  • Leads the architecture, design and implementation of technical solutions in multiple market segments that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to develop world‑class products in highly regulated markets.
  • Familiar with SW development processes & workflows to realize products on a product/system level.
  • With the relevant technical competencies, lead and execute product realization from conceptual stages all the way through the manufacturing transition.
  • Able to support the development of technical proposals for customers, providing technical solutions to realize concepts and estimating associated labor and material costs required.
  • Recognised subject matter expert for one or more technical areas. See Technical Competencies section.

  • Proficient in enforcing strict software quality standards (e.g., MISRA C/C++) and utilizing static/dynamic analysis tools to eliminate vulnerabilities early in the lifecycle.
  • Strong champion of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices, including automated unit, integration, and system-level testing to ensure software robustness.

  • Ability to manage/lead complex engineering projects in-discipline and also on a cross-functional level. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project.
  • Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans.

Core Technical Expertise
  • Full-stack embedded systems architecture and development across multiple disciplines (Hardware, Cloud, and Mobile).
  • Mastery in at least one or more programming languages, e.g. C, C++, or Rust.
  • Deep knowledge in OS development such as RTOS and Linux Device Drivers development
  • Experience in software security processes like OS hardening and encryption.
  • Foundational electronics knowledge for circuit design and basic schematic reviews.
  • Proven experience driving software compliance and documentation in accordance with IEC 62304 (Medical) and/or DO-178C (Aerospace) is an added advantage.
  • Secure Architecture & Design: Implementation of secure boot, hardware-based roots of trust, and firmware resiliency principles (e.g., NIST SP800-193, IEC 62443-4-1, IEC 62443-4-2) for robust embedded systems.
  • Risk Management: Experience in conducting threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and implementing mitigation strategies for industrial control systems (ICS) and IoT environments.
Process and Methodologies
  • Proficiency in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices, including unit and integration testing.
  • Expertise in requirements analysis and translation into technical specifications for software/hardware integration.
Leadership and Professional Skills
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking for cross-domain hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Strong technical leadership and customer-facing communication skills for global project coordination.
