Our Client is a HR technology company helping companies hire, pay, and manage talent across APAC. We deliver Employer of Record (EOR), PEO, and Payroll Outsourcing through their platform, which spans the full client lifecycle from onboarding and proposals through hire creation, payroll, and invoicing. We operate across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other APAC markets, which means multi-jurisdiction statutory compliance (CPF, EPF, BPJS, and more) sits at the centre of what we build.

You’ll lead the engineering function, with development, DevOps and QA reporting to you, building a platform where getting the details right has real consequences for clients’ people getting paid correctly and on time. This is a hands-on leadership role, and the final technical call is yours. You set technical direction, own delivery of what the team commits to, and stay close enough to the work to make the architecture calls yourself. Squad leads run day-to-day code review; you set the gates they work to and review by exception. You’ll partner closely with our Product team, who own requirements and roadmap, while you own technical approach, build quality and delivery.

What You’ll Do

• Set technical architecture and a sequenced engineering roadmap from platform priorities, and make the build, buy and integration calls.
• Own delivery of committed scope across the team, allocating capacity and balancing scope, time and quality.
• Own cloud infrastructure and platform reliability: AWS architecture and cost, database performance, deployment pipelines, and incident response.
• Own security and data protection: access control, vulnerability management, and the standards that keep client payroll and personal data safe across every market we serve.
• Set the direction on AI, both in the product and in how the team builds, and take it from proof of concept through to production.
• Define engineering standards: code and architecture quality, review gates, and how technical debt is managed.
• Lead and grow the engineering, DevOps and QA teams, from hiring and onboarding through capability and performance.
• Act as the final technical decision-maker, and shape how engineering is structured as the team grows.

Requirements

• Proven engineering leadership, accountable for delivery outcomes across multiple teams or product lines, with demonstrated longevity in at least one recent role.
• Experience building and leading engineering teams across locations: hiring, structuring and developing both engineers and technical leads, resourced appropriately and cost-effectively.
• The ability to coordinate complex technical projects that span multiple teams, and to report progress in clear, business-friendly terms.
• A strong track record in agile delivery, with a focus on team velocity and execution against business goals.
• A strong working partnership with product management, and excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience managing relationships with external technology vendors and partners.
• Architecture and platform design. Experience setting architecture for systems serving many clients across multiple markets from one codebase: code versus configuration, how variation by country or client is handled, how systems integrate, where data lives. The judgment to tell which of those decisions are expensive to reverse, to broker them across teams, and to assess an existing system for what it makes easy and what it makes hard.
• Technical credibility. Able to build directly with AI tools and judge whether the result is correct, and to stay close to what the team is actually shipping. Daily production coding is not expected.
• AI and the development lifecycle. A view on how AI changes the way a team builds: agentic coding, how work is verified when implementation is cheap, and what may not be generated and merged unchecked.
• Cloud infrastructure and the data layer. Depth across AWS, databases and query performance, and deployment pipelines, sufficient to direct specialists rather than defer to them.
• Security. A thorough understanding of security practice end to end, from product security through to threat management.
• Technical debt and system health. Experience prioritising technical debt at an organisational level, and holding that line when delivery pressure argues otherwise.
