Job summary

Johnson Matthey is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer based in Malaysia to design, implement, and manage virtualization platforms spanning VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, and Azure Local. The role covers Windows and Linux administration, data centre operations, storage and backup, with on‑call incident response and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience with virtualization and platform administration.
• Experience with clustered deployments and VM lifecycle management in VMware vSphere and Hyper‑V.
• Strong proficiency in Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022/2025) and cross‑platform Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
• Scripting and automation using PowerShell to improve ops efficiency.
• Experience with SAN/NAS storage and virtualization networking (VLANs, vSwitches, distributed switches).
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (vROps, SolarWinds).
• Familiarity with backup/replication tools (Veeam).
• Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with patching/updating tools (WSUS/SCCM, Azure Update Manager) or vulnerability tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V, Azure Local).

• Oversee data centre operations, storage, backup/DR, and capacity planning.

Please note that this is a 1-year renewable contract position and candidates must currently be based in Malaysia with valid work rights as work visa sponsorship will not be provided.

The role:

• Design, implement, and manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper‑V, Azure Local), covering cluster configuration, VM lifecycle, host management, and storage integration.
• Maintain and support Windows and/or Linux systems, including patching, tuning, configuration, and executing upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning for compute platforms.
• Oversee data centre operations and enterprise infrastructure, including physical servers, racks, environmental checks, SAN/NAS storage, and backup/DR systems to ensure availability and business continuity.
• Monitor and troubleshoot performance and availability issues across virtual and physical environments, ensuring compliance with security baselines and operational standards.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with network, security, and application teams, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in on‑call rotations for critical incident response.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Able to commit to a one-year contract (renewable)
• Comfortable to work in an APAC & EMEA shift model
• 5+ years of hands‑on IT infrastructure experience with deep expertise in virtualization and platform administration across VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper‑V, including clustered deployments and VM lifecycle management.
• Strong proficiency in Windows Server platforms (2016/2019/2022,2025), with additional experience in Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) for cross‑platform support.
• Skilled in scripting and automation, preferably using PowerShell, to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Solid understanding of enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS) and virtualization networking concepts (VLANs, vSwitches, distributed switches).
• Experienced in infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting, using tools like vROps, SolarWinds, with strong analytical skills for managing production environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• VMware VCP certification or Microsoft Certified
• Familiarity with Azure Local (HCI), VMware Solution, or hybrid cloud infrastructures.
• Experience in backup and replication tools like Veeam.
• Exposure to infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience supporting enterprise patching, WSUS/SCCM, Azure Update Manager or vulnerability management tools.
