Job summary

S P Setia Berhad is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support the Project Development Section across various legal areas including litigation, advisory work, and contract drafting for project development activities in Malaysia.

The role involves managing litigation across Courts and Tribunals, advising on risk exposure, and coordinating with external solicitors while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and Setia Group policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Degree in Law.
• CLP / Called to the Malaysian Bar.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in litigation (court/arbitration/mediation/tribunals).
• Experience in project development (SPA/tenancies/leases/banking), construction, procurement and PAM/IEM contracts.
• Strong interpersonal and drafting skills; ability to communicate with internal stakeholders.
• Independent and collaborative work style.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Development Section in varied legal areas including research, dispute resolution and document preparation for litigation and advisory services relating to project development, tenancies, construction matters and ad hoc property conveyancing.
• Manage and monitor all litigation matters of the Setia Group in Courts and Tribunals, including dispute resolution and legal advisory work, liaising with external solicitors and updating Senior Management.
• Manage exposure of the Setia Group’s risks and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• Coordinate with external solicitors and other advisors on Setia Group matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate agreements for project management and development activities (SPA, tenancies, leases, settlements, etc.).
• Research legal updates and advise on compliance implications for Setia Group's business.
• Report to General Manager, Project Services to ensure duties comply with laws and Setia policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
