Job summary

UEM Lestra Berhad seeks an experienced civil/structural engineer to support renewable energy projects, focusing on design development, technical coordination, and construction oversight. You will ensure conformance with design, standards and schedules across earthworks, foundations, and associated structures.

Primary duties include daily site supervision, QA/QC, and coordination with EPC teams, authorities, and internal project groups to resolve technical issues and maintain project timelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in civil and structural engineering, preferably within renewable energy, solar, infrastructure, EPCC or construction projects.
• Good technical knowledge of civil and structural works, including earthworks, foundations, piling, drainage, roads and structural works.
• Knowledge of construction methods, engineering drawings, specifications, method statements and ITPs.
• Good understanding of QA/QC and HSE requirements for construction activities.
• Good knowledge of local authority approval and statutory requirements.
• Good project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
• Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify potential cost and schedule implications of technical matters.

Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing civil and structural engineering design deliverables including earthworks, ESCP, piling/foundation design, roads, drainage, water reticulation, sewage, geotechnical works, fencing, substation/transformer foundations and buildings.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, owner’s engineers and internal project teams on civil and structural technical matters.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, authority requirements and approved design.
• Assist in identifying design gaps, constructability issues and potential technical risks and escalations to the Manager/Project Manager where required.
• Monitor and supervise civil and structural construction activities including earthworks, piling, foundations, roads, drainage, structural works, fencing, buildings and other related works.
• Ensure site works are carried out in accordance with approved IFC drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and quality requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections and monitor contractor performance, workmanship, progress and compliance with approved requirements.
• Identify and report construction issues, non-conformances, delays and technical risks to the Manager/Project Manager.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, owner’s engineers and internal project teams on civil and structural technical matters.
• Assist in monitoring C&S technical deliverables, project milestones and interfaces to support timely project execution.
• Review and coordinate technical queries, shop drawings, method statements, material submissions and other technical documents.
• Support the resolution of technical issues and ensure responses are properly documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

To provide civil and structural engineering support for renewable energy projects, covering design development, technical coordination, construction implementation, quality assurance and project completion.

The role supports the Manager/Project Manager in ensuring that civil and structural works are delivered in accordance with approved design, specifications, project requirements, quality standards, safety requirements and agreed project timelines.

Job Accountabilities

• Assist in reviewing civil and structural engineering design deliverables including earthworks, erosion and sediment control (ESCP), piling/foundation design, roads, drainage, water reticulation, sewage, geotechnical works, fencing, substation/transformer foundations and buildings.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve civil and structural design interfaces and technical issues.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, authority requirements and approved design.
• Assist in identifying design gaps, constructability issues and potential technical risks and escalations to the Manager/Project Manager where required.

2) Construction & Site Supervision

4) Quality, HSE, and Compliance

• Monitor implementation of QA/QC requirements including inspections, testing and rectification of identified defects.
• Support the implementation of safe construction practices for civil and structural works, including earthworks, lifting activities and working at height.
• Ensure site activities comply with applicable statutory, environmental, HSE and project requirements.
• Assist in monitoring and closing out quality and HSE observations, non-conformances and corrective actions.

5) Project Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare and maintain technical reports, site inspection reports, progress updates, technical assessments and relevant project documentation.
• Maintain proper records of drawings, technical submissions, inspections, testing, site instructions and other C&S project documents.
• Provide timely updates to the Manager/Project Manager on project progress, technical issues, risks and areas requiring management attention.

6) Technical Risk & Value Engineering Support

• Assist in identifying technical risks, constructability concerns and potential opportunities within civil and structural works.
• Support technical due diligence and assessment of design proposals, specifications and construction methodologies.
• Participate in value engineering exercises to identify practical and cost-effective solutions while maintaining the required quality, safety and performance standards.

7) Stakeholder & Authority Coordination

• Support the Manager/Project Manager in liaising with internal and external stakeholders on C&S technical matters.
• Assist in coordination with relevant authorities, utility providers and other external parties where required.
• Follow up on technical comments, approvals and outstanding matters to support the project schedule.

Formal Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred or commensurate level of experience/ achievements
