Job summary

A global insurance provider in Kuala Lumpur is looking for an Underwriter who will evaluate risks for both new and renewal business in the Accident & Health segments. The role includes monitoring portfolio performance, providing technical underwriting support, and managing the entire product development life cycle. Ideal candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience in general insurance and a degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, along with relevant certifications. Competitive package offered.

Key Objective

• Evaluate risks and underwrite new and renewal business for the Corporate Book, Accident & Health segments in accordance with underwriting guidelines, emphasizing growth and profitability.
• Assist in monitoring the Accident & Health portfolio to ensure that underwriting performance aligns with financial targets.

Major duties and responsibilities

Underwriting

• Completes assignments of moderate to high complexity while working within delegated authority.
• Offers technical underwriting support and guidance to customers and distributors, ensuring exceptional customer service at all times.
• Fosters strong relationships with internal and external distributors by consistently requesting appropriate evidence, making informed decisions, and clearly explaining rating outcomes.
• Addresses a variety of queries and referrals within established authority limits, assessing exposure and analyzing risk for each case to uphold underwriting standards.

Product Development

• Assist in managing product development entire life cycle from product idealization, concept, creation to launch, including policy documentation and marketing materials within the approved product governance framework.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders, such as legal, compliance, vendor, IT and distribution channels for product roll out.
• Work with Product Leaders and Distribution channels to develop marketing strategies and plans for product development including working with Marketing/Corporate Communications on Marketing collaterals and new product launches.
• Maintain proper documentation of all relevant internal/external analysis conducted and information used in the product development, pricing, and approval signoffs.
• Create a system and process for ensuring appropriate post implementation/post launch monitoring of new products in line with the regulatory and Company guidelines.
• Prepare product documentation for submission to PIAM and/or BNM where necessary.

Market intelligence

• Responsible for market research of competitors' products and trends within the industry.
• Provide recommendations and input on strategic product opportunities.
• Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats, and appropriate steps to mitigate the risks.
