Job summary

Zurich Malaysia is seeking a seasoned Commercial Underwriter - Engineering & Surety (Assistant Manager) to lead market-facing underwriting across Engineering and Surety portfolios in Kuala Lumpur. You will drive portfolio profitability by formulating underwriting plans, portfolio, customer, and go-to-market strategies.

Responsibilities include portfolio analysis, collaborating with actuaries and claims teams, negotiating terms with intermediaries, and developing cross-selling opportunities.

Qualifications

• Typically has at least 10 years Engineering underwriting experience
• Proven ability to develop and execute on strategic plans and company initiatives
• Experience in leading underwriting teams
• Proven strong market facing presence in local market and industry network
• Proven track record of growing a business and change management in a complex environment

Responsibilities

• To conduct in-depth portfolio analysis to assess portfolio performance and identify trends, areas of concern, and opportunities, and make strategic recommendations on how to approach these, taking into account market dynamics.
• To work closely with actuaries, claims professionals, and other departments to ensure portfolio strategy aligns with broader company objectives,
• To work with intermediaries to negotiate terms, gather feedback and gauge market dynamics.
• They will identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities within existing accounts to drive business growth through new and existing distribution channels.
• They will provide valuable input in relation to portfolio strategy, product development and system enhancements.
• Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels
• Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for Market Management Team, Agents, Brokers, Paterners, and Customers
• Assure development and implementation of policy, procedures and standards to produce profitable results
• Responsible for all portfolio’s Data Quality
• They will support with the development of other Underwriters.
