Job summary

Surbana Jurong in Malaysia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a background in hydropower to contribute to design and tender documentation for dam and hydro projects.

The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering, at least 6 years of hydromechanical design experience, and proficiency in AutoCAD. You will lead a project team, coordinate interfaces, and support site testing and commissioning while engaging with clients and authorities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a BEM recognized University.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant design experience in hydromechanical equipment for dams and hydropower.
• Active team player and team leader when required.
• Knowledge in AutoCAD; hydro turbine selection software is an added advantage.
• Experience in M&E consulting for dams and hydro projects preferred.
• Good command of spoken and written English.
• Willing to work outstation as required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare conceptual, preliminary and basic designs for mechanical equipment and services in hydro power.
• Prepare detailed designs for Mechanical Balance of Plant equipment and services.
• Prepare tender documents, specifications, schedules, BOQ and cost estimates.
• Perform tender evaluation and report.
• Review shop drawings and material submissions for compliance; prepare design reviews.
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests locally and overseas.
• Support resident engineers and site teams during construction, testing and commissioning.
• Manage interfaces between disciplines and lead the Mechanical team to deliver tasks.
• Assist project managers with progress monitoring and reporting for Mechanical.
• Attend client, internal and site meetings.
• Consult with local authorities for approvals.
• Support preparation of technical proposals for new projects.
• Ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Job description

• To prepare conceptual, preliminary and basic designs for Mechanical equipment and services in the Hydropower field, including but not limited to electromechanical equipment, hydraulic steel structures and steel penstock, equipment general arrangements and powerhouse layouts.
• To prepare conceptual, preliminary, basic and detail designs for Mechanical Balance of Plant equipment and services of hydro power stations.
• To prepare tender documents, technical specification, technical scheduled, bill of quantities and cost estimates.
• To perform tender evaluation and prepare tender evaluation reports.
• Review shop drawings and construction material submissions by contractors for compliance to specifications and prepare design review reports.
• To attend and witness Factory Acceptance Test of mechanical equipment, local and overseas.
• To provide support to the resident engineers and site teams providing engineering definitions during the construction phase of the project including testing & commissioning of mechanical equipment and services, and hydromechanical equipment.
• Manage engineering interfaces between other engineering disciplines involved in the designs, and coordinate and lead other team members of the Mechanical discipline to deliver Project tasks as necessary.
• To support the Project Managers with the project progress monitoring and reporting with respect to the Mechanical Discipline.
• To attend client meetings, internal project coordination meetings, project site meetings and technical meetings.
• Carry out consultation with local authorities for submission approval.
• The support preparation of technical proposal to Client for new projects and opportunities.
• Any related ad-hoc duties assigned by immediate superior.

Requirements:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a BEM recognized University.
• A minimum 6 Years of working experience of relevant experience in design of hydromechanical and mechanical equipment & services for dams and hydropower stations.
• An active team player and team leader whenever required.
• Knowledge in AutoCAD, and hydro turbine selection software will be an added advantage.
• Experience in M&E consulting engineering company in the dams and hydro field will be preferred.
• Good command of spoken and written English.
• Must be willing to work in outstation, whenever required.
