Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Malaysia is seeking a Procurement professional to manage material purchasing and supplier relationships in a fast-paced environment on site in Penang.

You will procure materials, set up data in the MRP/ERP system, and support cost-reduction initiatives. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain, with at least two years of related experience, strong Excel skills, and proven negotiation abilities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
• 2 years of progressive experience in planning, inventory control, purchasing, shipping or materials management.
• Experience with problem analysis and resolution.
• Experience with networked PC-based systems (MS Office, spreadsheets, Access, ERP/MRP).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills.
• Effective negotiating skills and ability to negotiate contracts.
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite products.
• Ability to handle diverse, detailed tasks.
• Ability to integrate knowledge of manufacturing processes, customer service demands, accounting principles and ERP requirements.

Responsibilities

• Procures materials, components, supplies and services necessary for the operation of the company.
• Set-up and maintain material, supplier and planning system data in the MRP/ERP system.
• Develop and communicate purchasing agreements.
• Participate in purchasing initiatives, cost-reduction programs, etc.
• Act as the purchasing liaison between facilities and negotiate blanket orders as needed.
• Develop purchasing reports for vendor analysis, purchase volumes, On-Time Delivery (OTD), etc.
• Communicate problems, results, and important issues to applicable supervisors, scientists, and engineers.
• Ensure that requisitions receive proper signatory permission.
• Place orders with approved suppliers from properly executed requisitions and expedite critical materials as necessary.
• Work with suppliers to resolve quality, delivery, and pricing problems.
• Challenge price increases, especially those greater than the rate of inflation, and evaluate bids consistent with the total cost of ownership.
• Utilize SAP to report/track purchasing and production metrics: capacity, loading, backlog, lot/late deliveries, and OTD.
• Collaborate with departmental management to utilize Oracle for capacity planning and load.
• Maintain the Oracle purchasing and receiving system, including new vendor entry, consumable and raw material part entry, and part cost entry.
• Test and upgrade the purchasing system with new releases of SAP.
• Update procedures as required.
