Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Backend Engineer in Kuala Lumpur to design and deliver high-performance backend services and APIs. The role focuses on scalable microservices with strong reliability and security, with optional frontend integration using Angular or React.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot and proven production-grade delivery.
• Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, CosmosDB) with performance tuning.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and test automation practices.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and Git workflows.
• Knowledge of application security principles and scalable backend design.
• Ability to work in Agile/Scrum teams and collaborate across functions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Kotlin/Java (Spring Boot).
• Implement scalable microservices architectures with high reliability and performance.
• Ensure security, monitoring and optimization for mission-critical systems.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code using industry-standard testing frameworks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver backend-driven features.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues, including performance bottlenecks and scaling challenges.
• (Optional) Contribute to frontend development using Angular or React.
