Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and deliver high-performance backend services and APIs. The role focuses on building scalable microservices with reliability, security and maintainability, using Kotlin or Java (Spring Boot).

You'll work with cross-functional teams, implement CI/CD pipelines with Docker/Kubernetes, and collaborate on data stores like Postgres and MongoDB. Optional frontend integration using Angular/React is a plus; cloud and DevOps knowledge is valued.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Kotlin/Java with Spring Boot and production-grade systems.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, CosmosDB).
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockk, Mockito, TestContainers).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and Git workflows.
• Knowledge of application security principles and data protection.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot, with proven experience delivering production-grade systems.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MongoDB, CosmosDB), including schema design and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockk, Mockito, TestContainers) and test automation practices.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab).
• Knowledge of application security principles (authentication, authorization, data protection).
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve backend issues in complex environments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with collaborative development practices.
• Nice to have: front‑end experience with Angular, React, TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Nice to have: cloud and DevOps knowledge (Azure or AWS, Event Grid, Kafka, Event Hub, Key Vault, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Azure Databricks).
• Nice to have: CI/CD & infrastructure-as-code expertise, containerization, pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
