Job summary

AVEVA in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Search Engineer to join AVEVA’s AI & Digital Delivery hub. You will shape and deliver fast, relevant, and AI-enhanced search experiences across customer and partner portals using Solr, Elasticsearch, and Alibaba OpenSearch.

You will work with back-end languages like C#, Python, or Java, implement indexing pipelines, and continually improve search quality through data-driven insights.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in search engineering or information retrieval.
• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Solr and/or Elasticsearch, including cluster management, schema design, and query tuning.
• Experience designing search relevancy models, scoring approaches, indexing pipelines, and ETL processes.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as C#, Python, or Java.
• Understanding of NLP fundamentals for search, including tokenisation, stemming, and entity recognition.

The job

We are looking for a Search Engineer to join AVEVA’s newly established AI & Digital Delivery hub in Kuala Lumpur. In this role, you will shape and deliver fast, relevant, and AI-enhanced search experiences across customer and partner portals. You will work with technologies such as Solr, Elasticsearch, and Alibaba OpenSearch to support discovery across product catalogues, documentation, partner resources, and knowledge bases, helping users find the right information quickly and confidently.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement search architecture for the Unified Partner Experience and customer portal platforms.
• Deploy, configure, and optimise Solr, Elasticsearch, and/or Alibaba OpenSearch for multi-region search workloads.
• Develop search relevancy models, including scoring, boosting, synonyms, and query analysis.
• Build search APIs, indexing pipelines, faceted search, auto-complete, type-ahead, and AI-enhanced search features.
• Monitor search performance, relevancy metrics, and user behaviour to continuously improve search quality.

Essential Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Solr and/or Elasticsearch, including cluster management, schema design, and query tuning.
• Experience designing search relevancy models, scoring approaches, indexing pipelines, and ETL processes.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as C#, Python, or Java.
• Understanding of NLP fundamentals for search, including tokenisation, stemming, and entity recognition.
• 5–8 years of experience in search engineering or information retrieval, including production-scale search delivery.

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with cloud-managed search services such as Azure Cognitive Search, AWS OpenSearch, or Alibaba OpenSearch.
• Experience with vector search, semantic search, embeddings, RAG patterns, CJK tokenisation, Kafka, or Learning to Rank models.
• Curiosity and aspiration to keep learning emerging search, AI, and information retrieval technologies.
• Strong analytical, data-driven, and user-focused mindset, with the ability to build trust through measurable search improvements.
• Additional proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage, as the role may involve supporting stakeholders and business activities in Mandarin-speaking markets.
