Job summary

Tenby Schools Penang is seeking an enthusiastic Science Technician to join a two-person team supporting learning across all three sciences. The role offers access to state‑of‑the‑art labs, robotics and excellent facilities in a progressive international school setting.

You will assist teaching staff, prepare materials, maintain safety standards and help run practical lessons for students aged 3–18 within ISP Malaysia’s network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or equivalent.
  • Experience in a laboratory and knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Experience in an international school is preferred.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Patient, caring and passionate about teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Science Department teaching staff to support student learning.
  • Provide cover and invigilation when required.
  • Prepare materials and equipment per CLEAPPS/HAZCARDS regulations.
  • Prepare practical lessons and examinations.
  • Set out apparatus and clean up waste materials.
  • Refill, label and clean lab reagents; manage expired chemicals.
  • Assist with stock solutions and lab deliveries under guidance.
  • Help keep rooms and equipment clean and safe; advise on safety.
  • Create files/catalogue materials for pupil research.
  • Regularly check equipment, conduct stock takes and arrange repairs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow health and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist the work of the teaching staff in the Science Department to support the learning of the students in the school.
  • Assisting with cover and exam invigilation when required.
  • To prepare materials and equipment as required by the departmental staff following CLEAPPS and HAZCARDS regulations.
  • To prepare practical lessons & examinations
  • Setting out apparatus, cleaning away waste materials, etc.
  • To refill, label and clean laboratory reagent bottles, acids, alkalis, indicators, including labelling expired chemicals etc.
  • To make up stock solutions when required.
  • To assist the department staff with the delivery of practical lessons and under the instruction/guidance of the teacher to support pupils during practical work/demonstrations.
  • To ensure rooms and equipment are kept clean and tidy and that safety regulations are met, including checking equipment for safety, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and advising pupils on safety aspects of particular practicals.
  • To assist with the creation of files and cataloguing of articles for pupil research and staff use.
  • To carry out routine checking of equipment, maintaining regular inventories of materials, books, and equipment, and conducting regular stock takes, repairing faults and arranging for repair where this cannot be performed in- house.
  • To maintain a safe working environment for staff and pupils and to ensure the health and safety procedures are always followed e.g. weekly check of eye wash station and showers.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or equivalent.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience of working in a laboratory and/or strong knowledge of safety regulations and protocols that surround lab work.
  • Preferably with experience in an international school.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Patient, caring, responsible and passionate about teaching or education.
