Job summary

EG R&D Sdn Bhd is seeking an R&D Mechanical Design Engineer in Penang, Batu Kawan. You will develop mechanical parts and drawings, validate designs, and oversee tooling from concept to mass production. The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration and rigorous documentation.

Ideal candidates have a Mechanical Engineering degree with hands-on experience in CAD, POC prototyping, and BOM creation. Senior roles require 3+ years; juniors are welcome for growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in design and development of mechanical parts including plastics, metal, rubber, artwork and packaging.
• Experience in developing Proof of Concept (POC) models and delivering prototype units to customers.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modelling tools to create detailed parts and produce 2D drawings and BOM per ANSI, GD&T guidelines.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and Creo.
• Senior position: minimum 3 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
• Fresh graduates with strong technical skills are encouraged for the Junior position.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate with the R&D team.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create, develop, and update mechanical designs and technical drawings for parts and components.
• Verify and validate new mechanical designs, tooling, and related solutions.
• Design parts involving plastic, metal, rubber, artwork, and packaging.
• Ensure designs meet cost, quality, performance, and delivery requirements.
• Oversee tooling fabrication and improvement for plastics, metals, and rubber.
• Lead design through the new product development process to mass production.
• Support and improve existing product designs for functionality and manufacturability.
• Maintain design change records and documentation.
• Own design activities within projects and collaborate with teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
