Job summary

GC PACKAGING SDN BHD is seeking a proactive R&D Lead to drive plastic packaging product development, including thermoforming processes and moulding technologies. You will design moulds and tooling, lead a design team, and ensure manufacturability from concept to production.

Responsibilities include CAD modelling, tooling optimization, CNC coordination, and cross-department collaboration to achieve high quality, cost-effective solutions for customers in Malaysia.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• Strong experience in plastic packaging / thermoforming industry.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX).
• Knowledge of CNC machining and tooling design.
• Experience in project management and product development lifecycle.
• Leadership and problem-solving skills.

Job description

Lead and manage R&D activities for plastic packaging products, particularly thermoforming and moulding processes.

Design and develop products, moulds, and tooling based on customer specifications, drawings, and manufacturing requirements.

Perform 2D/3D CAD design, including product modelling, mould design, assemblies, and detailed drawings.

Develop and optimize mould and tooling concepts to ensure functionality, accuracy, and manufacturability.

Oversee tooling development from concept design, fabrication, CNC machining, testing, trials, and improvement.

Coordinate CNC machining processes such as milling to achieve required tooling quality and accuracy.

Conduct product and mould trials, troubleshooting, validation, and design improvements to ensure product quality and performance.

Work closely with production, tooling, quality, and other departments to resolve technical issues and support new product development.

Support the successful transfer of new products and tooling from R&D to mass production.

Improve manufacturing processes to reduce defects, material waste, production costs, and lead time while enhancing product quality.

Manage project timelines, costs, technical documentation, and engineering changes for new product development.

Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the R&D team.

Technical Scope:

Plastic thermoforming processes.

Mould design (vacuum forming, pressure forming, etc.)

Tooling fabrication and maintenance.

CNC programming and machining knowledge.

Material selection (PET, PP, etc.) for packaging applications.

Requirements:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
