Job summary

Celestica in Kulim, Malaysia seeks a Team Leader, Operations Quality 2 to supervise SMT quality tasks across assigned lines. You will plan shifts, review defects, and drive containment and permanent corrective actions, while mentoring Quality staff and ensuring compliance with IPC-A-610 and ISO standards.

Ideal candidates have 3–4 years hands-on SMT experience, strong RCCA/CAPA skills, and a Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Detailed Description

• Performs direct supervisory and technical quality tasks for assigned manufacturing lines, including:
• Plan shift working hours, line coverage, and overtime schedules for Quality Inspectors.
• Review defects identified by Quality Inspectors, prepare yield/defect reports, notify production teams, and drive containment and permanent corrective actions.
• Provide direct supervision, routine task guidance, and hands-on training to Quality Support employees.
• Monitor, evaluate, and manage performance, attendance, and adherence to company policies for Quality Inspectors.
• Authorize line stops for non-conforming conditions and escalated critical quality incidents to the Quality Manager.
• Review Quality Instructions (QIs) and standard operating procedures, providing feedback to Quality Engineers for continuous improvement.
• Direct experience with SMT processes, including solder paste printing, 3D SPI, Pick and Place, Reflow Soldering, AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), and X-Ray inspection equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of the product quality requirements (IPC-A-610, workmanship, cosmetic spec.) and the tools and equipment used in the inspection process.
• Strong proficiency in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) frameworks using problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, 8D, Fishbone/Ishikawa).
• Practical experience conducting Line Audits, process compliance audits, and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control audits.
• Solid understanding of Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL) sampling plans (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 / ISO 2859-1).
• Familiarity with basic quality tools (Pareto analysis, Control Charts, Checksheets) and ISO standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or ISO 13485 depending on product focus).

Leadership and People Management

• Demonstrated leadership skills with direct experience managing, mentoring, and developing subordinate inspectors/technicians.
• Ability to handle shift handovers, conflict resolution, performance appraisals, and attendance tracking.
• Strong decision-making capability to stop production lines when quality thresholds are breached

Communication & Soft Skills

• Excellent cross-functional communication skills to collaborate effectively with SMT Process Engineers, Production Supervisors, Maintenance, and Management.
• Strong reporting skills to document defect Pareto charts, shift summaries, and containment action plans clearly.

Typical Experience

3 to 4 years of hands‑on experience in SMT (Surface Mount Technology) manufacturing environments.

Typical Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experiency.
