PT RESOURCES HOLDINGS BERHAD is seeking a seasoned Purchasing & Merchandising leader to develop and implement strategies aligned with sales, profitability, inventory, and working capital goals.
You will lead and coach the Purchasing & Merchandising team, optimize supplier terms, manage assortments, monitor stock performance, and collaborate with Retail, Sales, Warehouse, Finance, and Marketing to ensure effective product, pricing and inventory management.
Develop and implement purchasing and merchandising strategies aligned with the Company’s sales, profitability, inventory and working capital objectives.
Lead, coach and strengthen the Purchasing & Merchandising team, including review of roles, responsibilities, processes, KPIs and individual performance.
Manage supplier sourcing, evaluation, selection, relationships and commercial negotiations, including purchase prices, payment terms, rebates, promotional support, MOQ and other trading terms.
Monitor purchasing costs, market prices and supplier competitiveness, and identify cost-saving and margin-improvement opportunities.
Develop and manage product assortment and category strategies based on customer demand, market trends, sales performance, profitability and inventory productivity.
Monitor SKU and category performance, including sales, gross profit, stock turnover, ageing and fast / slow-moving products, and recommend product rationalisation where required.
Oversee inventory planning and replenishment to maintain product availability while minimising overstock, shortages, ageing and obsolete inventory.
Optimise purchase quantities, supplier terms and inventory levels to improve working capital efficiency and cash conversion.
Support the development and expansion of house brand / private label products, including identification of suitable product opportunities, suppliers and OEM partners.
Lead sourcing and commercial negotiations for house brand / private label products, including product cost, MOQ, payment terms, production lead time and supply arrangements.
Work with relevant teams on house brand / private label product specifications, packaging, labelling, pricing, margin analysis, launch quantities and replenishment planning.
Monitor post-launch performance of house brand / private label products, including sales, gross profit, stock turnover, customer response and supplier performance.
Work closely with Retail, Sales, Warehouse, Finance, E-Commerce, Marketing and other relevant teams to ensure effective product, pricing and inventory management.
Establish and monitor supplier performance covering quality, availability, delivery, service level and commercial terms.
Strengthen purchasing SOPs, quotation and price-comparison processes, approval controls, supplier governance and purchasing documentation.
Prepare regular purchasing, merchandising, category and inventory reports for Management and provide recommendations on suppliers, products, pricing and inventory matters.
Ensure all purchasing and merchandising activities comply with Company policies, procedures and approval requirements.
Requirements
Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Procurement, Merchandising, Retail Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in purchasing, procurement, merchandising, category management, retail, FMCG, food distribution, wholesale, trading or related fields, with proven managerial / leadership experience.
Experience in house brand / private label product development, OEM sourcing and product commercialisation is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of supplier management, product sourcing, negotiation, pricing, category management and inventory management.
Strong commercial understanding of product costing, gross profit, stock turnover, market trends and product performance.
Experience in inventory optimization, ageing stock reduction and working capital management will be an advantage.
Strong analytical, negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant business / inventory systems.
Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to improve the capability and performance of an existing purchasing team.
Able to work independently and coordinate effectively with Retail, Sales, Warehouse, Finance, E-Commerce, Marketing and other relevant functions.
