Woh Hup Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager – M&E to lead mechanical and electrical coordination for a major data centre project in Johor, Malaysia. You will act as the key technical interface among the client, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to drawings, specs, and safety standards.

The role requires strong M&E engineering knowledge, hands-on site coordination, and the ability to resolve complex technical issues

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of relevant M&E construction experience.
• Experience working for a main contractor is highly preferred.
• Data centre, mission-critical facilities, industrial, or large-scale projects experience is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of M&E building services, installation methods, drawings, and specs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate M&E engineering activities for the data centre project, ensuring technical compliance and smooth execution of site works.
• Collaborate with consultants, clients, design teams, and subcontractors to resolve technical queries and design issues.
• Review M&E design drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure project requirements are met.
• Manage technical submissions, RFIs, and coordination drawings with timely responses and resolutions.
• Oversee M&E systems (HVAC, electrical, fire protection) and integration with civil/architectural works.
• Coordinate with site engineers and subcontractors to ensure installations align with project program.
• Conduct site inspections and coordination meetings to monitor progress and resolve technical constraints.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) to oversee the technical coordination and execution of M&E works for a data centre development in Johor. This role focuses on technical problem‑solving, coordination with consultants, management of design and technical submissions, and close collaboration with site teams to ensure the successful delivery of M&E installations.

Working for the main contractor, the successful candidate will act as a key technical interface between the client, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams. The role requires strong M&E engineering knowledge, hands‑on site coordination experience, and the ability to resolve technical issues while ensuring all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate M&E engineering activities for the data centre project, ensuring technical compliance and smooth execution of site works.
• Work closely with consultants, clients, design teams, and M&E subcontractors to resolve technical queries, design discrepancies, and site coordination issues.
• Review and coordinate M&E design drawings, shop drawings, technical specifications, material submissions, and method statements to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Manage technical submissions, Requests for Information (RFIs), design clarifications, and coordination drawings, ensuring timely responses and resolution of outstanding issues.
• Oversee the technical coordination of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water systems, ventilation, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Coordinate electrical systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, busducts, cable containment, and earthing systems.
• Work closely with site engineers, construction managers, and subcontractors to ensure M&E installations are properly coordinated with civil, structural, and architectural works.
• Conduct regular site inspections and coordination meetings to monitor installation progress, identify technical constraints, and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Resolve clashes and interface issues between different M&E services and other building disciplines, ensuring practical and coordinated installation solutions.
• Coordinate with consultants and the QA/QC team on inspections, testing procedures, quality issues, and rectification works.
• Monitor M&E construction progress and provide technical guidance to site teams to ensure works are executed according to the project programme.
• Review technical proposals and recommend suitable engineering solutions in consultation with the design team and relevant stakeholders.
• Coordinate with procurement and commercial teams on technical evaluations, equipment specifications, material approvals, and subcontractor technical matters.
• Oversee the technical aspects of pre-commissioning, testing and commissioning, integrated systems testing, and final handover of M&E systems.
• Ensure all M&E installations meet relevant statutory requirements, approved project specifications, applicable standards, and data centre operational requirements.
• Prepare and review technical reports, progress updates, and outstanding technical issue registers for project management and client meetings.
• Support the project team in managing technical risks, resolving site challenges, and ensuring the quality and reliability of critical data centre infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years of relevant M&E construction experience, preferably with experience managing technical and site coordination activities on large‑scale projects.
• Previous experience working for a main contractor is highly preferred.
• Experience in data centre, mission‑critical facilities, industrial, or large‑scale commercial projects is an advantage.
• Strong technical knowledge of M&E building services, installation methodologies, engineering drawings, and construction specifications.
• Proven experience coordinating with consultants, clients, design teams, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary site teams.
• Good understanding of M&E design coordination, technical submissions, RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, and site technical resolutions.
• Experience coordinating M&E interfaces with C&S and architectural works.
• Familiarity with data centre critical infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, switchgear, cooling systems, and associated supporting services, is highly desirable.
• Understanding of testing and commissioning procedures for M&E systems, including integrated systems testing, is an advantage.
• Strong technical problem‑solving, communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
• Able to make practical engineering decisions, manage technical issues independently, and work effectively under tight project deadlines.
• Willing to be based at the project site in Johor, Malaysia.
