Adient Automotive Holding (M) Sdn Bhd in Malaysia seeks a Welding Process Engineer to develop and optimize GMAW/MIG welding processes for automotive production. You will plan layouts, support prototype builds, and collaborate with Industrial Engineering on capacity and cycle times, ensuring equipment readiness for launch.
You will lead welding parameter development, create WPS, run trials, and aim to reduce cycle time and defects while adhering to AWS/ISO standards and Lean/Six Sigma practices.
Develop manufacturing processes meeting quality, cost, and production targets
Plan plant layout, material flow, and equipment needs
Work with Industrial Engineering on capacity and cycle time
Support prototype builds
2. Equipment & Capital Management
Define and manage capital equipment, tooling, and modification costs
Oversee equipment design, build, installation, and certification
Ensure equipment readiness for launch and PPAP
Track budget, timelines, and risks
Resolve equipment and manufacturing issues
3. Launch & Plant Support
Ensure completion of all manufacturing launch gates
Coordinate plant readiness (staffing, layout, utilities)
Support process handover to plant manufacturing and maintenance teams
4. GMAW Process Development & Optimization
Develop and optimize welding parameters (current, voltage, wire feed, gas, speed)
Create and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
Conduct welding trials and capability studies
Improve cycle time and reduce defects (e.g., spatter, porosity)
5. Production Support & Quality
Provide daily technical support for welding issues
Troubleshoot defects and implement corrective actions
Ensure compliance with AWS, ISO, and customer standards
Perform root cause analysis and support audits
Maintain process and welding documentation
Drive cost reduction (materials, gas, rework)
Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
Ensure welding safety compliance
Train operators on welding processes and best practices
Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / manufacturing / Welding Engineering or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years experience in Robot GMAW / MIG welding process (automotive experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy and weld defect analysis.
Experience with robotic welding systems is an advantage.
Familiar with AWS D1.1, ISO 3834 or equivalent welding standards.
