Job summary

Agensi Pekerjaan Penta Consultancy Sdn. Bhd is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and ongoing enhancement of enterprise applications. You will provide technical leadership, ensure scalable and secure solutions, and translate business needs into robust architectures.

The role requires driving modernization, governance, and best practices across the team. You will mentor software engineers, oversee production support, and collaborate with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/SE/IT or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in software development, application support, and system integration.
• 3–5 years of experience leading software development and/or application support teams.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (J2EE/JEE), Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, RESTful APIs, and Microservices Architecture.

Responsibilities

About the job Principal Software Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, enhancement, maintenance, and support of enterprise applications throughout the SDLC.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance, ensuring scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions, system designs, and implementation plans.
• Review application architecture, technical designs, source code, and documentation to ensure compliance with engineering standards and best practices.
• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers and application support analysts, including performance management, coaching, workload planning, and career development.
• Oversee day-to-day application support and production operations, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive preventive and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, Delivery Managers, and cross-functional teams to manage requirements, priorities, timelines, resources, and delivery expectations.
• Drive technical innovation, application modernization, performance optimization, automation, and reduction of technical debt.
• Ensure applications and deliverables comply with security, governance, quality, audit, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, code review, automation, and software engineering best practices.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in software development, application support, and system integration.
• Minimum 3 to5 years of experience leading software development and/or application support teams .
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (J2EE/JEE), Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, RESTful APIs, and Microservices Architecture .
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases , such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
• Solid experience in system analysis, solution design, software architecture, performance tuning, and troubleshooting .
• Proficient in source control and development tools such as Git, GitLab, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, code review, technical documentation, Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices .
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Professional certifications in Java, Cloud, Agile/Scrum, or Solution Architecture would be an advantage.
