Job summary

Private Advertiser is seeking a proactive Port Engineer to join our team in Malaysia. The role focuses on on-site service, maintenance, and technical support for bearing, lubrication, and electrical control systems in port and heavy industrial environments.

Candidates should have 5+ years of relevant experience and be able to travel locally or regionally. Fluency in English and Mandarin is required for liaising with clients and partners.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in equipment servicing, maintenance, or mechanical repair, ideally ports/marine/heavy machinery.
• Experience with electrical controls, PLC and HMI configuration/troubleshooting.
• Excellent field-work attitude and willingness to travel locally or regionally.
• Proficient in English and Mandarin for client liaison.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site service, maintenance, and technical support for bearing and lubrication systems across ports and heavy industrial environments.
• Install, align, inspect, and troubleshoot bearings and related mechanical components.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in electrical control systems including PLC and HMI operations.
• Collaborate with customers to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare service reports, maintenance documentation, and feedback for product improvement.
• Support sales and application engineers during project implementation or trials.
• Ensure all service work complies with safety standards and quality procedures.
• Perform service work safely, including working at height when required.

Job description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Port Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for candidates with strong technical knowledge, coordination skills, and the ability to oversee port-related operations, ensuring efficient vessel support, equipment reliability, and smooth execution of engineering and operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide on-site service, maintenance, and technical support for bearing and lubrication systems across customer sites (including ports and heavy industrial environments).
• Conduct installation, alignment, inspection, and troubleshooting of bearings and related mechanical components.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving electrical control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) operations.2
• Work closely with customers to identify root causes of mechanical and electrical control issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Prepare service reports, maintenance documentation, and feedback for continuous product improvement.
• Supports sales and application engineer during project implementation or customer trials.
• Ensure all service work complies with safety standards and company quality procedures.
• Perform service work safely, including working at height (60 meters above sea level) when required.

Requirements

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in equipment servicing, maintenance, or mechanical repair – ideally within ports, marine, or heavy machinery sectors.
• Experience with electrical control systems, including configuration and troubleshooting of PLC and HMI systems.
• Strong problem – solving skills and willingness to work in field environments.
• Able to work at height and travel locally or regionally for site work when required.
• Proficient in English and Mandarin as this roles will required to liaise with Mandarin-speaking clients and partners, both written and spoken
• Experience supporting port equipment (eg. Cranes, hoists, conveyors).
• Ability to develop marketing materials such as brochures, pamphlets, and technical presentations is highly desirable
