About the role
We are seeking an experienced and client focused professional to join our Portfolio Management team. The successful candidate will solve a variety of commercial problems to optimise and improve value generation on the in‑force portfolio. This role is based in Kuala Lumpur to support initiatives across the Asia Pacific (excl. China) regions (APAX).
Core responsibilities
- Portfolio Management – Actively support the Portfolio Management team to execute management actions focused on in‑force portfolios. Activities include preparing technical analyses, documentation, presentations, leading internal and external client discussions, managing internal stakeholders and managing junior resources from the Bangalore support teams.
- Driving initiatives on the in‑force portfolio to increase value and manage risk.
- Perform closed treaty reviews on several treaties annually to review profitability and propose actions.
- Conduct technical analyses including projections, embedded value, profitability and experience analysis for pricing, recapture and other in‑force transaction purposes.
- Support product or policyholder engagement initiatives to maintain or improve value generation for both the cedant and Swiss Re.
- Product upgrades and other treaty changes on the in‑force.
- Support internal cross‑functional teams on requests to review product changes on in‑force products.
- Respond to commercial triggers to consider changes to in‑force treaties, such as substitute business, pricing changes, terms and conditions for pricing changes, and requirements on portfolio management in terms of claims, retention, operations and data provision/quality.
- Experience and performance monitoring.
- Prepare and collate information to support portfolio steering and in‑force management of the APAX portfolio.
- Support the SMART Circles framework by preparing monitoring analysis and, where required, create new monitoring processes depending upon current and emerging risks.
- Act as linkage between front‑line/client‑facing functional teams and actuarial valuations and reserving to ensure feedback loops operate effectively.
- Transactions and governance.
- Support the team leader’s role in preparing referral reviews and approvals on client recapture and/or re‑pricing activities that require Portfolio Steering sign‑off.
- Support transactions both pre‑deal as key Portfolio Steering representatives and post‑deal implementation and performance monitoring.
- Provide ad‑hoc technical support to the broader Portfolio Management team.
- Support group‑wide and local projects as required and support other priorities within Portfolio Steering as required.
About you
- Fellowship‑qualified actuary (or nearly qualified) with a recognised Actuarial professional body.
- Minimum five years of L&H valuation and pricing experience in reinsurance, primary insurance or actuarial consulting.
- Experience at a reinsurer or with a direct life office dealing with reinsurance relationships is highly regarded.
- Excellent ability to independently solve a range of complex commercial problems.
- Strong end‑to‑end and execution mindset, with the ability to join the dots across the full L&H value chain.
- Excellent technical knowledge in all areas of liability portfolio management (e.g. experience studies, product pricing and valuations, business planning, financial performance analysis, embedded value).
- Working knowledge of IFRS17 financial reporting regimes, as well as traditional and market‑consistent embedded value methods.
- Knowledge of and experience with the APAX L&H market (Australia/New Zealand preferred but not mandatory).
- Analytical and technical skills, with a strong foundation in data, systems, actuarial models and financial reporting systems.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to lead meetings and drive outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders of varying seniority.
- Strong desire to learn, adaptable, flexible in thinking.
- Fluent in verbal and written English.
