Job summary

Horizontal Talent is seeking a senior Platform/Staff Architect to lead architecture for distributed systems in Malaysia. You will own system design, drive API strategies, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product, Operations, Development, QA, DevOps, and Data teams to deliver scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes ownership, long-term maintainability, and leveraging AI tools to enhance development, debugging, and documentation efforts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Platform/ Solutions/ Technical Architect roles.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects.
• Proficient in microservices, API design, data consistency.
• Experience with payments, wallets, risk control or data platforms preferred.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Understand business models and translate requirements into executable system solutions.
• Lead business process analysis, domain modeling, system architecture, API collaboration, and data flow design.
• Act as technical owner for key projects and coordinate with Product, Operations, Development, QA, DevOps, and Data teams.
• Drive platformization, middle-platform architecture, and componentization to improve reusability and delivery efficiency.
• Review major requirements and identify risks in logic, tech, data, performance, security, and production release.
• Provide technical suggestions to improve system capabilities and business efficiency.
• Prepare and maintain architecture documents, business flow diagrams, system interaction diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
• Guide developers in understanding requirements and system design to improve project delivery.

Main Skills

• 5+ years of experience in Platform Architect, Solutions Architect, Technical Architect, or Staff/Principal Engineer roles, with a strong background in distributed systems
• Experience leading cross-functional projects and coordinating with Product, Operations, Development, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders.
• Familiar with microservices architecture, API design, data consistency, permission/access control, Flink, message middleware, MongoDB, and related technologies.
• Experience in payment, wallet, risk control, campaign, user growth, trading, gaming, e-commerce, financial systems, or data platforms is preferred.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain solutions and risks clearly.
• Strong ownership mindset, able to identify business/system issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Able to balance fast business delivery with long-term system scalability and maintainability.
• Enthusiastic about AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, ChatGPT, or similar tools to improve development, debugging, documentation, and technical research.
