Job summary

KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform dispensing, preparation, compounding, repacking, and patient counseling to ensure safe medication dispensation.

The role includes screening prescriptions, verifying with doctors, packaging, labeling, and providing drug information to patients and staff. You will also help with ward stock checks and participate in quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmacy or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication abilities.
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Pharmacy Technician will be required to perform various tasks within the Pharmacy Services including dispensing, preparation of drugs, compounding, repacking and counseling of customers regarding drug delivery devices to ensure the safe and effective dispensation of medication to the provision of health care.

RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Screening and order entry of prescriptions/drug charts
• Confirming with doctors in the event of illegible handwriting, dosage/frequency/duration errors, or drug unavailability
• Packaging, labeling, checking, and dispensing medications
• Providing patient counseling when required
• Compounding pharmaceutical products for extemporaneous use
• Conducting monthly ward check and pharmacy stock check

JOB DESCRIPTION 1.0 ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

• To understand and carry out pharmaceutical care in line with Vision and mission, Core Values, Goals and objective that suit the scope of the Pharmacy services and the hospital.
• To understand the service organization structure.
• To attend meetings held by the services in order to discuss issues and matters pertaining to the operation of the service.
• To be the first liner in all dispensing duties which include: Screening and order entry of prescriptions/ drug charts. Confirmation with doctors in the event of illegible handwriting, dosage/ frequency/ duration error or drug not available. Compounding pharmaceutical products for extemporaneous use. Packaging, labelling, checking and dispensing of medications. Sending prepared medications to the ward.
• To conduct monthly ward check and pharmacy stock check on slow moving items, short expiry item and rotate stock if required. Report any discrepancies found to Pharmacist.
• To provide patient counseling when required.
• To provide drug information to patients, doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel. Refer to Pharmacist if needed.
• To restock drugs in pharmacy, wards and units and inform Pharmacist In-Charge of unavailability of drugs.
• To ensure adequate inventory level of general supplies, e.g. prescription pads/ drug charts, disposables and dispensing items for smooth service operation.
• To unpack the ward return medications.
• To prepack bulk medications if required.
• To accurately reconciling and finalizing discharge bill.
• To prepare external solutions and disinfectants for ward / clinics;
• To participate in any stock take arranged by the hospital.
• To compile daily and monthly statistics as per quality objectives.
• To record and file Psychotropic Drug Prescriptions.
• To ensure precision and accuracy while dispensing and report to Pharmacist or Pharmacist in-charge immediately in case of any error occurred.
• Keep work area tidy and clean.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE SPECIFIC AREAS

• To be involved in various committees/ activities assigned by management.
• To be a preceptor to Diploma in Pharmacy Students and to attend any preceptor courses assigned. (if applicable).
• To be a mentor to train and guide new Pharmacy Assistants.4.
• To perform any other duties as ordered by the Pharmacist/ Pharmacist In-Charge.

JOB REQUIREMENT

• Education: Diploma in Pharmacy
• Knowledge and Experiences: Should demonstrate evidence of training in hospital setting during his/her undergraduate Diploma.
