Columbia Asia Hospital - Iskandar Puteri is seeking an experienced Emergency Physician to deliver 24-hour on-site medical coverage across the hospital. You will work with Emergency Physician, CMO and specialists to ensure safe and high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities include immediate clinical decisions, CPR, patient and family communication, and liaison with departments for transfers and escalations, with commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to hospital policies.
Position Summary:
- Provide a 24 hours continuous on-site medical support service to meet the needs of patients, consultants and nursing staff. This includes emergency procedures and providing a general service to all clinical areas
- Communicate and consult with the Emergency Physician (EP)/ Chief Medical Officer (CMO)/ Specialist in the provision of safe and quality care whenever appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide a 24-hour medical service within the hospital.
2. Consult with EP/CMO and relevant specialists for continuity of care whenever appropriate. Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient. Institute treatment care within 30 minutes for patients requiring admission.
3. Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant and nursing staff, these may include phlebotomy and the giving of intravenous drugs to patients.
4. Involve patient and relatives in the treatment plan and provide progressive updates on the need for admission, transfer, discharge of the patient.
5. Allow for Second Opinion and Referral to medical staff of patient's choice.
6. Visit Inpatients as required at the request of the nursing staff after consultation with the relevant consultants.
7. Inform relevant consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken.
8. Attend to patients according to "triaged status" upon registration in Emergency Room.
9. To be completely familiar with operating emergency equipment.
10. Attend immediately and carry out Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and other Emergency Procedures
as per hospital policy.
11. Initiate emergency treatments for patients, staff and visitors. Provide clear and precise instructions to minimize delays when treating outpatients and casualties.
12. Record all treatments performed in EMRD/ patient notes. Ensure completeness and accuracy of prescription, medical records and forms before the patients are discharged or admitted.
13. Responsible for the inter-hospital transfer arrangement of patients who require further management.
14. Provide safe transfer of the patient ensuring availability of appropriate medical equipment, drugs, and other items during ambulance transfer.
15. Assist EP/CMO to promote patient care by liaison with all departments.
16. Assist EP/CMO to maintain and strengthen working relationship with colleagues, police, local health authority, external healthcare providers includes public and private hospital.
17. Participate in the in-service education program, inclusive of CPR, Health, Safety and Fire Training to promote on quality and safe care by team members.
18. Be involved in quality improvement programs (incident reporting, customer care feedback, patient grievances).
19. 19. Be competent and safe in clinical practices by participating in internal and external continual professional development programs.
20. Be professional and always well - groomed when attending to patients. Dress code as per hospital policy.
21. Comply with hospital and statutory rules and regulations.
22. Assist EP/CMO to support and participate in community health activities organized by the hospital.
23. Attend department meetings as scheduled.
24. Provide health screening services for patients and staff.
25. Must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Malaysia Medical Council. Process and/or use information held on the HIS in a fair and lawful way and to use or disclose data only to authorized persons or organizations as instructed by EP/CMO.
26. Perform other duties as assigned by Emergency Physician/ Chief Medical Officer/ Chief Medical Services/ Regional Chief Executive Officer/ Chief Executive Officer as and when required in meeting the hospital’s goals and objectives.
Education and Requirements:
- MBBS or equivalent from recognized institutions approved by Ministry of Health/ Malaysia Government (JPA).
- Registered with Malaysia Medical Council.
- Possess a valid Annual Practicing Certificate.
- Substantial hands-on experience in Accident and Emergency unit, preferably in established private Medical Center or major public hospital.
