Job summary

TE Connectivity Manufacturing Malaysia is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer/R&D Product Development Engineer to drive product development from market definition through production and release. You will act as a core team member for mechanical design, lead projects, and conduct mechanical simulations on key features.

Proficiency in 3D CAD (PTC Creo preferred) and 3D CAE (Ansys favored) is required. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 5+ years of design

  • Execute product development from market definition through production and release
  • Lead mechanical design as core team member; guide team as needed
  • Conduct multiple projects concurrently contributing to technology and product decisions
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers
  • Create 3D CAD models and collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine concepts into manufacturable, cost-effective products
  • Perform engineering analyses including mechanical simulations on features such as springs, latches, and compliant pins
  • Create 2D drawings with GD&T and perform tolerance analysis
  • Write specifications, guidelines, validation test plans, and qualification reports
  • Coordinate and support prototypes and customer samples; validate features as needed
  • Conduct failure analysis using CT scans, cross sections, and tear downs to determine root cause and implement solutions

Mechanical Design Engineer/ R&D Product Development Engineer

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products and introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development and qualification from market definition through production and release. The role involves assisting in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conducting feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs; and directing and supporting detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.

Key responsibilities

Concept new products using engineering tools to create 3D CAD models and work with cross functional teams to refine concepts into manufacturable, cost-effective products

Perform engineering analysis including mechanical simulations on key features such as spring beams, latches and compliant pins

Create 2D drawings with geometric dimensions and tolerances and conduct tolerance analysis

Write specifications and technical documentation including design objectives, application guidelines, validation test plans, and qualification reports

Coordinate and support creation of engineering prototypes and customer samples, validating features as needed

Conduct failure analysis using tools such as CT scans, cross sections and tear downs to determine root cause for issues and implement solutions

About you

Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering

5 years or more of mechanical engineering product development experience

Participation in full product development cycle from establishing customer requirements to releasing qualified design to production

Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD applications, PTC Creo preferred, Ansys SpaceClaim beneficial

Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAE simulation applications, Ansys preferred

Ability in geometric dimensions and tolerances and tolerance analysis

Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes including stamping, molding, plating, and assembly

Experience in design for manufacturability to address customer requirements including mechanical, environmental, electrical, and cost

Strong interpersonal communication and cross functional teamwork skills

Ability to work in a global environment
